I want to correct a couple of inaccuracies in the way you reported what you
called a "split" between the prep hockey leagues.

First, you said that "the coaches of (the Founders and ISL) rallied against
(the idea of 20 minute periods)." This is not true. First of all, the
meeting was not just of division one schools, but of all member schools.
The Founders and ISL are a part of the organization, but there are many
other schools involved. Secondly, virtually ALL of the coaches present (including ISL and Founders
coaches) approved of the IDEA of 20 minute periods, but because of
logistical problems (e.g. travel time, scheduling all the other games a
school may host on a given Wednesday), the organization felt that it was
not likely to be approved by most ADs and headmasters. The organization,
including most of the coaches of the new league, agreed that we want to
maintain some consistency between leagues and schools about our rules.

Finally, no vote was ever taken to deny the new league the right to decide
to play 20s in league games. In fact, we made it very clear to them that
NEPSIHA has no authority to tell them what to do in this regard. Certainly
your statement that "a majority vote was needed" couldn't be further from
the truth. Instead, the coaches of the new prep league asked for their
colleagues' input. The gist of this input was: 1. that we would prefer that
they not institute this as a rule, in order to maintain consistency across
the different leagues. 2. that if any given schools, in this league or
others, decide together that they are going to play 20s on a given day,
that is well within their rights. This already happens on occasion. The
coaches of the new league accepted these recommendations (which is all they
were).
Thank you.
