| Rank | Record | The Skinny | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Avon Old Farms | 11-1-0 |
GPG/GAA 3.83/1.53 -- Senior G Anthony Palmer (1.57/.945) has only allowed more than two goals in a game once this season. Avon's only loss of the season was a 2-1 decision to Kent on the first day of the Avon Xmas Classic. Avon's next four games are on the road. LAST 3: Beat Taft, Hotchkiss, & Kent. NEXT 3: @ NMH (Wed.), @ Berkshire (Sat.), @ Westy (Mon. 1/26).
|
| 2 | Salisbury | 12-2-1 |
GPG/GAA 4.13/2.01 -- In recent years, Salisbury would have two or three losses by now, and finish with a kick. Hell, one season ('21-22) Crimson Knights lost 4(!) games in December alone, and then lost one more the rest of the way, winning the Elite 8. This season, Salisbury still has just one loss -- and it's mid-January. Sittin' pretty. LAST 3: Beat Stanstead, Westy, & Choate. NEXT 3: vs. T-P (Wed.), @ Kent (Sat.), vs. Gunn (Wed. 1/28).
|
| 3 | Dexter | 11-1-2 |
GPG/GAA 5.38/1.91 -- Senior RD Myles Brosnan leads Dexter in scoring by a healthy margin (16 gp, 5-26-31). A Harvard commit, NHL Central Scouting has Brosnan the top-ranked prep player (#104 overall) in the Mid-Term Rankings. As he goes, Dexter goes. Dexter's lone loss was to Kent, and lone tie was vs. Thayer. LAST 3: Beat Brewster, Winchendon, and New Hampton. NEXT 3: @ AP (Wed.), @ Shattuck (Fri.-Sat.)
|
| 4 | Tabor | 10-3-0 |
GPG/GAA 3.85/1.76 -- Junior G Vinnie D'Urso (1.65/.947) has three shutouts and hasn't allowed more than three goals in any game thus far. His -- and the team's -- signature win came vs. St. Mark's last week, a 5-3 decision. Tabor's three losses have all come by one goal, to Nobles, Avon, & Milton, in that order. LAST 3: Beat St. Mark's, lost to Milton, beat P-Abbey. NEXT 3: vs. Exeter (Wed.), @ Bel Hill (Sat.), vs. Thayer (Wed. 1/28)
|
| 5 | St. Mark's | 12-1-0 |
GPG/GAA 8.15/1.58 -- The Lions have the three top scorers in prep hockey in juniors Caiden Pellegrino and Will Manchuso, and senior Evan Nee. Their goal differential of +87 blows everyone away. Their sophomore goalies have a combined 1.58 GAA. Now, the Lions need some tough games, like Tabor gave 'em last week. LAST 3: Lost to Tabor, beat RL, beat Rivers. NEXT 3: vs. Bel Hill (Wed.), vs. St. G (Fri.), @ Middlesex (Wed. 1/28)
|
| 6 | Kimball Union | 14-3-1 |
GPG/GAA 4.20/1.80 -- All three of the Wildcats' losses have been 2-1 games -- to Hotchkiss and Andover (at the Flood-Marr), and to Tilton. Kind of indicates a need for more punch up front, and voila, senior F Xander Boutilier returns from injury and posts 5 points in three games. LAST 3: Beat VA, lost to Tilton, beat SPS. NEXT 3: vs. Deerfield (Wed.), vs. Brewster (Fri.), @ Cushing (Sat.)
|
| 7 | Canterbury | 11-3-1 |
GPG/GAA 3.73/2.19 -- Senior G Cody Hew, who started at Canterbury as a freshman, has had a great month of January. In six of his last seven games, Hew has allowed two or fewer goals per game. Last week alone. he faced 43, 44, and 52 shots vs. LA, Choate, and Gunn. Hew was beaten only four times. LAST 3: Beat LA, beat Choate, beat Gunn. NEXT 3: vs. Westy (Wed.), @ Taft (Sat.), vs. Millbrook (Mon.1/26)
|
| 8 | Holderness | 10-2-0 |
GPG/GAA 4.67/2.17 -- A key to Holderness's success in recent years has been the presence of a high-scoring defenseman. Last year, it was Jeremy Poirier (now in the BCHL). Before that, of course, it was Caeden Harrington. The Bulls don't have that luxury this year. LAST 3: Beat Rivers, SPS, & Proctor. NEXT 3: @ NYA (Wed.), vs. Gov's (Fri.), vs. New Hampton (Sat.)
|
| 9 | Hotchkiss | 5-3-2 |
GPG/GAA 2.50/1.88 -- The Bearcats started the season 0-2-1, but except for a 3-1 loss @ Avon, are undefeated since. They don't score much, so count heavily on 6'2" junior G Neilan Johnson (1.72/.943). NHL Central Scouting had him at #36 in its Mid-Term NA Goaltender Rankings. LAST 3: Beat SPS, lost to Avon, tied Loomis. NEXT 3: vs. Kent (Wed.), Exeter (Sat.), and Berkshire (Wed. 1/28)
|
| 10 | Thayer | 7-4-3 |
GPG/GAA 3.07/2.65 -- Got whacked around a bit at the LA/Groton Tournament. After a 7-1 loss to Cushing Dec. 20th, the Tigers were 3-3-1 and looked neither here nor there. But in the seven games since, they've gone 4-1-2 including a tie vs. Dexter and wins over Gov's and Bel Hill. LAST 3: Lost to Nobles, beat Bel Hill, beat LA. NEXT 3: @ Cushing (Wed.), @ RL (Fri.), @ Tabor (Wed. 1/28).
