All Rise! Judge Hat Trick Sinks Taft

Westminster 6 @ Taft 2
-- Junior Brian Judge notched a hat trick, and his linemates -- junior Ryan Shaw (1g,3a) and sophomore wing Blake Burke (1g,2a) -- also had huge days, as Westy had its way with host Taft.

Going into the game, the storyline was whether Taft junior goaltender Rudy Guimond, a Yale commit from Kirkland, Quebec who knocked off Avon, 3-2, with a spectacular 55-save performance on Saturday, could come up with another gem.

He couldn't, stopping 20 of 25 shots before being relieved midway through the third. At the other end, Westy junior Matteo De Luca, a Montreal native, was excellent, stopping 33 of the 35 shots he saw.

Although Taft drew first blood, on a Zave Greene rebound goal midway through the first period, the Martlets, energized from the get-go, held the edge in play. Four minutes later, Judge evened it up at 1-1 on a wrister from the top of the left faceoff circle.

Early in the second, with Rhinos center JJ Lemieux in the box, Judge scored again, as a Blake Burke shot from the right faceoff circle rebounded directly to Judge at the left faceoff circle. With a yawning net facing him, Judge didn't miss, putting Westy up 2-1 at the 1:39 mark, and giving them the lead for good.

With 4:55 left in the period, Martlets junior center Michael Bianco added to the lead, beating Guimond with another long wrister to make it 3-1 for the visitors. Taft senior winger Jackson Holl scored a rebound goal with 22 seconds in the frame, making it a one-goal game and giving Taft a glimmer of hope to open the third.

But nothing came of it, as Ryan Shaw, after Taft had trouble clearing the zone, banged home a rebound goal 1:22 into the final period. Several minutes later, Judge completed his hat trick, chasing Guimond.

The Martlets, who went 0-4 at the Flood-Marr, are a young team, with 14 new players this season. Now 5-4-0 on the season, today might be pointed to as a turning point should they find further success. Taft, now 7-3-0, came up short in all facets of the game today, but, as they showed against Avon, they can beat anybody, especially when their goalie is on his game.

Taft will look to bounce back when they host Choate on Saturday. Westminster will attempt to make it three in a row when they host Salisbury on Saturday.

@ Pomfret 4, Winchendon 3 (OT) -- Sophomore Luke Corrigan's second goal of the game, from Brooks Pearce 2:46 into OT, lifted host Pomfret to the win. Winchendon trailed, 3-1, going into the third, but sent the game to the extra stanza with goals from senior Liam Forsyth and sophomore Johnny Harbour. Pomfret's Beau Johnson stopped 32 of 35 shots in the win.

Berkshire 6 @ NMH 1 -- Behind a 31-save performance from Holy Cross recruit Danick Leroux, and two goals each from seniors Stanley Bright and Tanner Marsh, Berkshire jumped to 3-0 since ringing in the new year. NMH got its only goal from sophomore Mateo LaHaie in the second. The Hoggers started sophomore Kyle Bolduc (10/15) in net, but pulled him before the third for junior Tommy Adams (11/12).

Frederick Gunn 4 @ Albany Academy 1 -- Alex LoGuercio's first-period goal broke an early 1-1 tie and held up as the game-winner. Gunn's Dylan Thorn scored 38 seconds into the game but AA junior Ryan Wead tied it 13 minutes later. Gunn junior Mitchell McCusker (20/21) got the win in net. AA senior Will Mizenko (36/39) took the loss.

Tabor 2 @ Milton 1 -- Tabor junior Keanan Dewberry scored both Seawolves goals -- the game-tying goal with a second left in the first period, and the game-winning goal in the third. Milton's lone goal, which put them up 1-0 in the first, was a short-handed tally from senior Mikka Kelechian. Seawolves senior G Gus Ackerman saved 35 of 36 shots for the win, while Milton senior Harrison Brown (36/38) took the hard-luck loss.

@ Portsmouth Abbey 4, Middlesex 0 -- Junior Patrick McDevitt stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Abbey climbed to 5-6-1 on the season. @ Proctor 2, New Hampton 1 -- Junior Carter Dougherty's powerplay goal with 23 seconds left lifted Proctor to a 2-1 home win. Senior Nick Marrocco put the Hornets on the board first in the second before New Hampton's Gavin Brandon tied the game early in the third. Senior Nate Zerrenner (32/34) was the hard-luck loser in net, while junior Caden Pasqualone (33/34) got the victory.

@ Governor's 4, Exeter 1 -- Senior Jack Farrell's powerplay goal at the game's midpoint gave Gov's a 1-0 lead before outscoring Exeter 3-1 in the third and cruising to victory. Senior goalie Max LaCroix stopped 21 of 22 shots in the win.

Worcester Academy 4 @ Williston 2 -- In a game that featured 11 minor penalties, WA junior Connor Dozois notched a hat trick en route to Worcester's third win of the season. Seniors Perry Gaudreau and Felix-Antoine Bouchard scored for Williston. PG Brandon Prior (41/43) earned the win.

Cushing 3 @ Salisbury 2 (OT) -- Senior Linas Dedinas notched the OT winner at 2:34 of the extra frame to keep Cushing undefeated at 10-0-3. Salisbury juniors Jesse Allecia and Nicolas Petrut scored to build a 2-0 lead in the first, but Cushing PG Jack Constanzo tied the game with goals in the second and third, the equalizer coming 6x5 with 13 seconds left in regulation. Cushing senior goalie Cooper Rautenstrauch (25/27) got the win. Salisbury PG Matt Alberti (35/38) took the loss.

North Yarmouth 3 @ Pingree 3 (OT) -- Pingree struck twice in the final period to tie the game on goals by sophomore Max Trudel and junior Ryan Kavanagh. Earlier, in the first period, NYA junior Grey Perham had scored twice in a span of three minutes, and senior Tanner Anctil scored with a second left to put the Panthers up 3-1 heading to the first intermission.

@ Deerfield 4, Loomis Chaffee 1 -- Loomis started sophomore Liam Joyce in net for the second time this season, but lifted him for regular starter Andrew Heinze when Deerfield went up 2-0 in the second. Junior Ben Cook (1g, 1a) and sophomore Zachary Chehade (1g, 1a) paced the Big Green. Junior John Tolve went 26/27 and earned the win.

@ Hotchkiss 4, Avon Old Farms 3 (OT) -- Senior Shane Bjorn's powerplay goal with 55 seconds left in overtime capped Hotchkiss' furious comeback to hand top-ranked Avon its second loss in as many games. Trailing 3-1 after the first, and the same after the second, junior Brennan Cail potted his second goal of the night with 3:31 left in regulation. Then Hotchkiss emptied its net and tied the game on Michael Gallary's goal with 33 seconds left in the third. The Bearcats killed an overtime penalty before sealing the win. In goal, Grant Kloeber recovered from a bad start and finished 36/39 in the win. Avon's Stephen Peck was 28/32.

Brunswick 4 @ Millbrook 2 -- Senior goalie Brendan Holahan stopped 22 of 24 Millbrook shots and Harvard commit Drew DellaSalla scored twice to lead Brunswick to the road win. Mustangs junior Tyler Spokane (34/37) took the tough loss.

@ St. Mark's 4, Roxbury Latin 1 -- Senior goalie Charles Watson kicked out 17 of 18 and junior D Calvin Beard, a Southborough native, notched a goal and assist as the Lions downed Roxbury Latin, which remains winless at 0-8-1. St. Mark's had already built a 4-0 advantage by the time junior Jake Novak scored Latin's lone goal in the second.

@ Groton 5, Hebron 1 -- Junior forward Allen Fang scored two of the Zebras' five goals and freshman defenseman Alejandro Hassan assisted on three. Ethan Ramonetti got the win after kicking out 27 of 28. Hebron's only score of the game came from junior Chase Aldridge in the second.

@ Kents Hill 7, Brewster 4 -- Trailing 1-0 after the first, Kents Hill scored five times in the second period to take the lead for good. Senior Olivier Lacroix (1g, 2a) and junior Sam Stejskal (1g, 2a) led the way for the victors. Brewster senior Dalton Kane scored twice in the loss.

@ Noble and Greenough 4, Lawrence Academy 3 (OT) -- Senior Brian Grant's 4x4 goal 46 seconds into overtime lifted Nobles to its eighth straight win and 11th in 13 games. Trailing 3-2 in the final minute, the Bulldogs emptied their net and tied the game on senior Austin Tasca's goal with 42 seconds left in regulation. Sophomore netminder Thatcher Bernstein saved 23 of 26 for Nobles, and senior Luc Gagnon stopped 27 of 31 for LA.

Canterbury 6 @ Choate 3 -- After a back-and-forth start, Canterbury, playing on the road and trailing 3-2, rattled off four unanswered goals spanning the second and third periods to win handily. Senior forward Jed Brazo (2g,2a) led the Saints' attack. Jake Kloss's powerplay goal in the second stood up as the game-winner. Primo Baldassarre went 24/29 in net for Choate. Junior Mitch Stenger and sophomore Sean Dunn combined to save 37 of the 40 shots for the win.

St. George's 2 @ Brooks 1 -- Sophomore Danny Buckley's second goal of the game, a 4x3 goal in the third, broke a 1-1 tie and hoisted the Dragons to a come-from-behind ISL road win and a 9-3-0 record. His first goal had tied the game in the first, 38 seconds after senior Will Rassier gave Brooks a 1-0 lead.

@ Kimball Union 4, Vermont Academy 2 -- Despite being outshot, 68-16, Vermont Academy hung around, drawing within a goal of KUA on junior Ivan Miasoedenkov's third-period tally. But KUA junior Jack Sadowski iced the game, scoring with 44 seconds left to clinch the win. VA's junior goalie, Owen Willgos, saved 64 of 68 shots, while his KUA counterpart, junior Colby Boyce, saved 14 of 16.

@ Belmont Hill 3, Thayer 2 -- Belmont Hill, trailing 2-0 at home midway through the third, struck for three goals in six minutes -- two on the PP -- to eke out the win. Sophomore D Grayson Cohen scored the game-winner. Bel Hill freshman goaltender JJ Thibodeau (23/25) earned the win; Thayer senior Beau Lane (37/40) took the hard-luck loss.

Brunswick 3, Edge School 2 --
At the MacPherson Tournament at St. Andrew's College, Brunswick rebounded from two Friday tournament losses (to Victory Honda U-18 and St. Andrew's) with a last-minute victory over the Edge School, of Calgary. Senior Eli Friedman broke the 2-2 deadlock with 13.5 seconds left. Junior Ryan Wachtel scored for the Bruins in the second and classmate Brendan Giles early in the third. Junior G Will Baker (22/24) earned the win. Brunswick (1-2-0) will face Culver (1-2-0) at 9:00 am Sunday.  MacPherson Tournament Scores, Stats, Standings, and Schedule

Loomis Chaffee 3 @ Andover 1 -- After a scoreless first, Loomis erupted for three goals in the second. Senior Will Reardon scored the first on a breakaway. Aidan Healy, the Pelican captain, scored the next two -- both on 2-on-0 rushes, the latter shorthanded. Andover finally got on the board, with 1:56 left in the game, on junior Drew Smith's goal. Loomis senior G Andrew Heinze (27/28) had another strong outing. Andover junior Ben Skowronek (32/35) took the loss. Loomis (10-4-3) has now won four of six.

@ Brooks 3, Governor's 2 -- Senior Will Rassier's hat trick single-handedly -- or just about single-handedly, anyways -- lifted Brooks to its first win in three games. The Princeton, NJ native scored twice in the second and again in the third to give his team all the scoring it needed. Governor's got both of its goals in the third, from junior Cam Russo and sophomore Ian Crowley.

Westminster 3 @ Kent 1 -- Junior Matteo De Luca kicked out 24 of 25 Kent shots, outdueling Lions' senior Harrison Fogel (23/25) en route to the win. Kent sophomore Jacob Ingstrup scored his team's only goal in the second. Earlier, the Martlets had taken a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore Blake Burke assisted junior Ryan Shaw's goal. In the final minute of the second, Shaw returned the favor, assisting Burke's game-winner. An empty-netter sealed the deal in the third. Kent drops to 10-6-2 with the loss, while Westy jumps to 8-6-0 with the win.

Avon Old Farms 4 @ Choate 1 -- Each member of the vaunted Connor-Gollob-Odyniec line -- they've scored 34 of the Winged Beavers' 70 goals thus far -- scored as Avon cruised to a road win in Wallingford. AOF junior d-man Blake Jones added a powerplay goal in the third. Choate's only goal was Evan Partridge's, 17 seconds into the second.

@ Cushing 4, Exeter 0 -- Ho hum. Another shutout for Cushing senior Cooper Rautenstrauch (18/18) and another multi-point game for junior Landan Resendes (2g), his 11th such performance this year. Junior AJ Sacco and PG Jack Costanzo scored the others for the Penguins, who are unbeaten in three games since losing to Thayer. Exeter senior goalie Michael Salvatore was 39/43.

Académie Saint-Louis 2 @ Austin Prep 1 -- Junior Thomas Fabbo's first period goal was all the host Cougars got. Alex Dubé's second period game-winner and Tristan Bourassa's 25-of-26 performance in net were enough for the visitors from north of the border.

@ Rivers 4, Middlesex 1 -- Middlesex sophomore Owen Crann scored 11 seconds into the game and the Zebras took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but the hosts scored four unanswered goals across the second and third, and won handily. Each Red Wing goal came off the stick of a different skater. Junior Jason Delehoy (16/17) was the winner in net. Sophomore Caio Bernandini (21/24) took the loss.

Dexter 2 @ Lawrence Academy 1 -- Dexter senior goalie Paul Dalessio watched teammate Max Gatti's 15-save shutout in Wednesday's 2-0 win over St. George's, and raised him a 19-save shutout in Saturday's blanking of Lawrence, by the same score. Freshman Jake Assad's second-period score was the only goal of the game Dexter needed, but senior Brayden Naumann sealed it with an empty-netter with 1:26 left. Having knocked off Tabor in OT Friday, the Spartans (6-6-2) fall back to .500. Dexter, meanwhile, is 9-5-7.

@ Portsmouth Abbey 3, North Yarmouth Academy 2 -- Senior Michael Patko's goal in the final minute of the second stood up as the game-winner as The Abbey extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. NYA, not surprisingly after a three-hour bus ride south, didn't get on the board until junior Nick Pelletier's powerplay goal in the second. Junior goalie Patrick McDevitt (31/33) was the winner. Senior Aidan Farion (38/41) took the hard-luck loss. NYA has now lost back-to-back games after its 10-game undefeated streak.

@ Brewster 6, Pingree 5 -- After the teams combined for seven goals in the first, and four more in the second, it was Brewster that took a one-goal lead into the third. There, the game's offense evaporated; nobody scored again, and the Bobcats (5-12-1) held on. Seniors Doyle Coughlin (2g,2a) and James Evans (1g,2a) led the way for the victors. Ryan Kavanagh logged a helper on four of the five Pingree goals..

Holderness 4 @ Kents Hill 1 -- Holderness senior goalie Evan Plunkett posted a 20-save shutout as the Bulls bounced back from Friday night's 4-1 loss to New Hampton, beating Kents Hill by the same score. Sophomore Will Rob (2g,1a) led the way for Holderness.

@ Taft 5, Trinity-Pawling 4 -- Taft freshman Carson Lowry's game-winning goal with 19 seconds remaining in regulation saved Taft from a possible fourth loss in five games. Minutes earlier, T-P sophomore Liam Lefebvre had tied the game 4-4. Patrick Hentemann's three helpers led Taft, while Ryan Drust (1g,2a) led the way for the Pride. It was another less-than-perfect night for Rhinos' junior goalie Rudy Guimond (31/35), but he did just enough to earn the win. T-P's Gavin Geraghty, a sophomore, was 27/32.

@ Northfield Mount Hermon 4, Millbrook 1 -- Millbrook senior Nolan Cadieux scored three minutes into the game to give his team a 1-0 lead to take into the first intermission, but the host Hoggers scored four unanswered goals across the second and third, and won handily. Liam Martin and Alex Ondos each had a goal and an assist to pace the Hoggers. Junior Tommy Adams (20/21) was the winner in net. Junior Tyler Spokane (29/32) took the loss.

@ Canterbury 5, Pomfret 4 -- In a back-and-forth game, it was Canterbury junior Ryan Stratton who scored last. And second-to-last, for that matter -- he tied the game with 8:04 left and potted the game-winner with 2:25 remaining, the second and third legs of his hat trick. Brooks Pearce (1g,1a) and Hudson Loh (1g,1a) paced the Griffins. Canterbury goalie Mitch Stenger, a junior, was 22/26 in net. Pomfret junior Zach Bloxam (32/37) took the loss.

@ Nobles 4. St. Sebastian's 3 -- In a battle between Keller Division rivals two miles apart from each other, the Arrows got into an early hole, finding themselves down, 3-1, going into the first intermission. But they didn't pack it in, coming out hard in the second, winning the period and cutting Nobles' lead to one entering the third. However, they were unable to further narrow the gap despite fighting every inch of the way, pressuring Nobles and forcing them to defend hard as the final seconds wound down with the Arrows skating 6x4. This was a hard-fought, physical, up-and-down battle between two good teams.

Salisbury 5 @ Berkshire 0 -- PG goalie Matt Alberti's 27-save shutout and senior Quinn McCall's two-goal performance led Salisbury to a rout of the Bears. Berkshire's Danick Leroux (36/41) took the loss. Salisbury, it appears, has turned it around: they're 3-1-1 over their last five games. They're 10-6-3 overall.

@ Deerfield 2, Hotchkiss 1 -- In the second and final game of Deerfield Hockey's 100th Anniversary celebration, the dozens of former players and families in attendance were treated to a good, old-fashioned goaltenders' duel. Through two periods, Deerfield junior John Tolve and Hotchkiss senior Grant Kloeber kept their opponents off the board. Finally, the Big Green cracked Kloeber (28/30) twice in the first 10-plus minutes of the third, junior Conor Moriarty finding the back of the net first, and sophomore Justin Tavares after. Tolve saved the first 27 shots he faced, but not the last -- a 6x4 goal by Michael Gallary with three seconds left. Still, Deerfield held on for its second straight win, advancing to 8-7-2 on the season. Hotchkiss, meanwhile, is winless (0-4-1) in five games since beating Avon in OT on Jan. 11.

Milton 6, St. George's 2 -- At the Hockey Night in the 'Burg fundraiser for Jake Thibeault at Fitchburg State, Milton jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Dragons cracked the scoreboard with under six minutes to go in the second. Seniors Jacob Pohl (2g,1a) and Henry Cohen (1g,1a) led the way. Junior Tate Pecknold scored both St. George's goals. Milton's #1 goalie, sophomore Sam Caulfield, had the night off, so senior Harrison Brown (22/23) and junior Jonah Nash (7/8) played instead, and picked up the win.

@ Belmont Hill 4, St. Paul's 2 -- Seniors Josh Doolan (2g) and Brock Cummings (1g,1a) led the attack as Bel Hill earned its fifth win in six games (5-0-1). Freshman goaltender JJ Thibodeau stopped 14 of 16 to pick up the W. For SPS,  freshman G Blake Truchon (42/46) was the hard-luck loser (he's had a few of those). Offensively for St. Paul's, Ryan Doherty, a senior, led the way with a goal and a helper.

A Great Take for Sunday:
The Ed Burns 'Coffee Pot'

The Second Annual Ed Burns Tournament (aka, 'The Coffee Pot'), an in-season tourney that features 16 of the top-ranked Massachusetts public high school teams, gets underway tomorrow (Sun. Jan. 29) and continues for the following two Sundays (Feb. 5th & 12th).

There are two divisions: the top one, which will be playing out of Arlington, and a separate second division. playing in Natick.

This is a great opportunity for prep school coaches to get a look at some of the top public MIAA teams and players. For those unfamiliar with Mass high school hockey, the publics, with infrequent exceptions, have, for quite a while now, taken second billing to the Catholic powers. The impetus behind the tournament is simply to showcase -- outside of the state tournament in March -- what those schools offer on ice. Because the Super 8 was eliminated a few years ago, the Coffee Pot has taken on added allure.

Ed Burns was the longtime coach at Arlington High, a true Mass hockey legend, who, back in the day, would routinely put together powerhouse squads that seemed to either win, or at least be in the hunt, come tournament time. Burns, who died in 2017, is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

John Messuri, a player under Burns in the late '80s who went on to star at Princeton, is Arlington's head coach, and the guiding force behind the tournament.

Deerfield Celebrates 100 Years of Hockey

The Deerfield Hockey 100th Anniversary celebration gets underway tonight on the school's campus with a slew of games -- boys', girls', and alumni; both indoors and outdoors -- and a number of related events.

Dozens of alums -- and even relatives of alums, some going as far back as the Roaring Twenties -- will be on hand, converging from all points of the compass.

Unfortunately, the driving force behind the event, Dr. Anthony Abene, an orthopedist and team physician for the San Jose Sharks and Barracuda, will not be on hand.

Abene had flown east last weekend to watch his son, Max (Deerfield, '22), a forward at Colby, in a pair of games. That worked out well, as Colby won both games. But on Sunday, the doctor hit the slopes for a day of skiing. That didn't work out well, as he suffered a severely detached retina. Back home in California on Monday, his doctor told him he would need surgery ASAP -- like the following morning. And he'd be prohibited from flying for a while.

To say Abene is disappointed would be putting things mildly. "I was going to meet people I've been talking to for the last two years."

And he's talked to a lot of people.

During the Covid year, Abene, who says he "loves going down rabbit holes," did just that. He went through digitized Deerfield yearbooks. He Googled over 900 players. He manually entered the scores of every game in the school's history. He created a spreadsheet and database of every player, several hundred of whom went on to play the game in college, and 17 of whom became NHL draft picks.

Abene said his "main passion has been to identify family members of guys who played in the twenties and thirties," adding that all teams this weekend will be wearing replica jerseys from that era.

As for digging around in rabbit holes, Abene learned that one of this weekend's oldest attendees will be Michael Grant, '55. Grant's father, M. Donald Grant, a Montrealer by birth, was a co-founder, part-owner, and chairman of the New York Mets. And his grandfather, Mike Grant, a Hockey Hall of Famer, played for the Montreal Victorias and the Montreal Shamrocks, winning five Stanley Cups while playing cover-point -- i.e., rover -- for the Victorias.

Needless to say, Abene has many stories like that, stories that attendees this weekend would love to hear. It's a tough break for everyone that he won't be able to attend. However, he will be home in San Jose, watching live streams of the games.

Asked if he could name the best-ever Deerfield squad, Abene pointed to the 1959-60 squad, which was undefeated. Five members of that team will be on hand.

Asked to name the single greatest season or performance by a Deerfield player, Abene didn't hesitate, pointing to forward Gene Kinasewich, who posted a 48-43-91 line in 16 games for that same '59-60 team. That's nearly six points per game. Kinasewich died in 2010, aged 63. Here is his obituary.

There will be alumni games, both on the school's indoor and outdoor rinks, for men and women. And yes, the outdoor rink does have artificial ice.

Here is the weekend schedule for the current varsities.

Hockey Night in the 'Burg, for 'Jake TBO14'

The second annual fundraiser for former Milton Academy forward Jake Thibeault takes place Saturday at the Wallace Civic Center, in Thibeault's hometown of Fitchburg, Mass.

Currently a freshman at Babson College, Thibeault, 19, suffered a serious spinal cord injury, breaking two vertebrae, at the 2021 Eastern Alliance Labor Day Kickoff tournament in Hopedale, Mass., dashing his hopes of a hockey career just as he was entering his senior season at Milton and getting interest from several NESCAC schools -- Colby, Middlebury, Bowdoin -- as well as Babson. Thibeault chose the latter, which not only allowed him to be closer to his family and doctors, but also offered the steady support of Beavers' head hockey coach Jamie Rice, who took a personal interest in Thibeault's case from the get-go.

Saturday's event, dubbed Hockey Night in the 'Burg, features three games: Fitchburg State hosts Plymouth State in a Div. III tilt at 3:00 pm. Following that, Milton Academy and St. George's face off at 5:30 pm. The nightcap features Fitchburg High School, for whom Thibeault played before going to Milton as a repeat sophomore, going up against St. Bernard's in an MIAA tilt at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are priced at $10, recommended. If you want to pay more, go for it. In addition, there will be a 50/50 raffle at each game. All proceeds benefit the Thibeault Family Rehabilitation Trust. Last year's event raised $40,000 for Thibeault's ongoing rehabilitation.

If you can't make it to the event, the family has a GoFundMe page. Right now, the fund has over $500,000. The goal is $1 million. Please go to: Thibeault Family Rehabilitation Trust

The drive with which Thibeault approached his rehab program has wowed those who come into contact with him. Check out the video below, taken at Thibeault's Milton Academy graduation in June. Thibeault gets out of his wheelchair and, using a walker, slowly but steadily walks the last 20-30 feet to the podium to receive his diploma as the crowd goes bonkers. After being handed his diploma, he walks back to his wheelchair amid another huge round of applause. Watch it and you'll see why Milton head hockey coach Paul Cannata dubbed his player, "The World's Greatest Kid." The nickname stuck.

Hoggers Comeback Ties Up #1 Penguins
Salisbury Ekes Out Win in OT
No Tie for Dexter Today
Thayer's Lane Blanks #4 Tabor
Bulls Pull Off Miracle Finish

@ St. Mark's 8, Middlesex 0
-- Freshman Evan Nee (2g,1a); and sophomores Drew Carr (1g,2a) and Richard Gallant (1g,2a) each notched three points, and senior G Charles Watson posted a 25-save shutout as #8 St. Mark's (12-3-0) rolled.

Proctor 2 @ Vermont Academy 2 (OT) -- In a back-and-forth game, the visitors from Proctor struck last, as senior Nick Marrocco's goal midway through the third period lifted the Hornets to the tie. However, the story here was the goaltenders, Proctor junior Caden Pasqualone (39/41) and VA junior Owen Willgos (42/44).

Tilton 4 @ New Hampton 3 -- Tilton held a 3-1 lead after the first period, but almost let it get away as the Huskies drew within one on a Cam Caron PPG late in the third. Tilton junior G Sawyer Russell (32/35) earned the win.

@ NMH 3, Cushing 3 -- The #1 Penguins built a 3-1 lead through two, but the Hoggers came back to tie it on third-period goals from James Hooley and Alex Ondos. Cushing senior Cooper Rautenstrauch (34/37) and NMH junior Tommy Adams (31/34) kept things close.

Salisbury 2 @ Frederick Gunn 1 (OT) -- Salisbury senior defenseman Quinn McCall's OT goal 2:15 into the extra frame hoisted the visitors to the win. Earlier, in the second, Salisbury had taken the lead on senior Hayden Hanes's goal before Gunn tied the game with senior Paul Tollet's score less than two minutes later. Gunn senior goalie Ryan Crowshaw (32/34) took the hard-luck loss; Crimson Knights junior Cooper Flemming (33/34) picked up the win.

Dexter 2 @ St. George's 0 -- No tie today! Dexter junior Cullen Emery scored twice and senior goalie Max Gatti saved all 15 shots he faced as Dexter blanked St. George's to hand the Dragons their fourth straight loss. St. George's junior G Ryder Shea (35/37) took the loss. Dexter, remarkably, is unbeaten over its last seven games, but has won only twice in that span. All those ties...

@ Kent 4, Taft 3 -- #9 Taft scored twice in the third to cut Kent's 4-1 lead to one, but Kent junior G Aidan Hopewell (20/23) kept the visitors off the board in the game's waning minutes to extend the Lions' unbeaten streak to three games. Juniors Owen Mahar and Gio DiGiulian paced the victors with a goal and a helper each (DiGiulian, by the way, committed to Cornell Tuesday). Taft junior goalie Rudy Guimond (26/30) took the loss.

Thayer 4 @ Tabor 0 -- Thayer won its second game in a week against a top-5 foe, blanking the fourth-ranked Seawolves seven days after handing #1 Cushing its first loss. Senior Beau Lane (1.77/.947) pitched a 33-save shutout. Junior Josh Halliday (1g,2a) and senior Shane Taddia (1g,1a) led the way for the winners. Senior G Gus Ackerman was 28/32 in net for Tabor. The Seawolves are 1-2-2 over their last five.

Kents Hill 5 @ North Yarmouth Academy 3 -- Kents Hill built a 3-0 lead after two and held on to win its sixth game of the year and earn a split of the season series with NYA. Junior Declan Stewart scored twice for the Huskies. Senior Cooper St. Hilaire (1g,1a) and junior Ethan Brochu (2a) led the way for NYA. In net, PG Ryan Rosenau (40/43) was the winner; NYA senior Aidan Farion (29/34) took the loss. NYA's undefeated streak (8-0-2) was halted at 10 games.

@ Belmont Hill 9, Brooks 0 -- Three Hillies -- seniors Henry Schmidek and Daniel Markham and junior Lenny Greenberg -- scored twice as Bel Hill pumped Brooks. Freshman JJ Thibodeau (9/9) and junior Ben Hack (3/3) teamed up to save every shot they faced. #7 Belmont Hill (9-4-3) outshot Brooks, 42-12, and has won four of five. Brooks, at 6-7-1, falls back below .500 for the first time in two weeks.

@ Kimball Union 4, Exeter 1 -- Senior goalie Dan Heroux stopped 22 of 23 shots to help #6 KUA extend its winning streak to seven, and its unbeaten streak to nine. Four different Wildcat skaters scored in the win. For Exeter (8-8-1), junior Christian Maro scored the only goal and senior Michael Salvatore went 30/34 in net.

Holderness 6 @ Brewster 5 (OT) -- A wild one here! Host Brewster held a 5-3 lead late in the third, but Holderness junior F Jake Boulanger scored a pair of empty-netters 32 seconds apart to send the game to OT, where junior F Caden Wells's goal finished off the improbable win. Holderness has won four of five and improves to 11-4-0.

Dexter's Unusual Ability

With so many games postponed today, the eyes of the hockey world swing to Dexter, which heads down to Rhode Island for a 4:30 pm tilt at St. George's.

Dexter has ties in five of its last six games. That's unusual. It's hard to imagine that it's happened before. What makes it even more improbable is the fact that all five ties were either 1-1 or 2-2 games.

"It's frustrating," Dexter head coach Dan Donato said, "because we're not bad when we're on. We just have trouble scoring."

In addition to the recent blizzard of ties, Dexter has had two additional deadlocks. It should come as no surprise that  one was a 1-1 game and the other ended 2-2. Symmetry counts for a lot.

In the twenty years since USHR debuted its live database, Dexter is one of 11 schools to finish a season with seven ties. The big difference, of course, is that Dexter's season is ongoing. So an abundance of opportunity awaits: Including today, they have 10 regular-season games left.

Two teams have eight ties in a season: NMH (2008) and Berkshire (2016).

The record is nine, set by Belmont Hill in 2014.

"We have a chance," deadpanned Donato, who, not surprisingly, advocates 3x3 overtime.

Cushing #1 in This Week's USHR Prep Poll

Sorry for the delay. This week's USHR Prep Poll is now collated, spit-polished, and ready for your reading pleasure.

We're proud to say that this week's edition is stuffed to the gills with factoids, ephemera, pithy observations, points to argue over, and plenty more.

One overarching observation: As we get further into the season, three teams have established themselves at the top of the heap. We feel that the three -- Cushing, Nobles, and Avon -- are somewhat interchangeable, and have been for a while.

Beneath them, question marks abound. A middle group of three -- Tabor, Milton, and KUA -- consists of teams whose high ranking is based heavily on their success against other good teams, i.e., other teams in the poll.

As for the #7-10 spots, we see at least a half dozen or more teams fighting for a rung on the ladder. This is where things can get really interesting.

Two teams from last week's poll, Salisbury (#9), and Tilton (#10), got the heave-ho.

The next poll will be on Feb. 6th, after the Connecticut schools return from winter break,

Yet Another Deadlock for Dexter?

Belmont Hill 1 @ Tabor 1 (OT) --
Belmont Hill outshot Tabor, 49-23, but had to settle for a 1-1 tie as Seawolves junior netminder Gus Ackerman (48/49) came up with his season's best game. His counterpart, Belmont Hill freshman JJ Thibodeau (23/24) was also excellent. Tabor's goal came when junior Josh Itri scored in the final minutes of the second. And that's where things stood until, with 1:04 left in regulation and the extra attacker on, Belmont Hill senior F Ronan O'Donnell finally solved Ackerman.

@ Avon Old Farms 3, Berkshire 1 -- Senior G Stephen Peck kicked out 20 shots, and seniors Alex Pelletier and Arthur Mirante, and junior Ryan Flaherty scored the goals as the Winged Beavers won their third straight, improving to 12-2-0. Berkshire senior G Cole O'Donnell (29/32) took the loss.

Proctor 7 @ Tilton 4 -- Junior F Finn Connor (2g,2a)  and PG Jon Groth (2g) led the attack, and junior G Caden Pasqualone (37/41) picked up the win in net. The Hornets were outshot 41-28. After starting the season 9-1, Tilton has lost four of six, falling to 11-5-0. Proctor improves to 9-6-0.

@ Hill 4, Gunn 1 -- Senior Ryan Kearney (2g,1a) and junior George Acklin (1g,2a) led the attack and senior Ryan Sanborn (37/38) came up big in net to lead host Hill past Gunn. Gunn senior G Ryan Crowshaw (32/35) took the loss. Gunn will attempt to gain a weekend split when the two teams meet again on Sunday (2:30 pm).

St. Mark's 5 @ St. George's 2 -- The Lions found the back of the net four times in the first period and never looked back. Sophomore Richard Gallant and junior Austin Borggaard each scored a pair, and junior defenseman Calvin Beard picked up 4 assists. Lions' senior G Jeevan Anand kicked out 20 of 22 shots for the win. Both shots that eluded him came off the stick of sophomore -- and Dragons' leading scorer -- Colin Walsh. St. Mark's is 5-0-0 vs. Eberhart opponents this season.

Milton 6 @ Pomfret 4 -- Seniors Henry Cohen, Jacob Pohl, and Mikka Kelechian each notched three points as the Mustangs won for the fourth time in five games, improving to 11-4-2 on the season.

@ North Yarmouth Academy 2, Worcester Academy 1 -- NYA senior goalie Aidan Farion saved 26 of 27 shots, propelling his team to victory behind first-period goals from seniors Zach Stabb and Daxton St. Hilaire. WA senior Ethan Jasmin scored in the third, but it proved too little, too late. Worcester junior G Braden Clifford (42/44) took the tough-luck loss. NYA has a 10-game unbeaten streak (8-0-2) going.

@ Winchendon 3, Kents Hill 1 -- Junior Willem Dumais and senior Liam Forsyth tallied first-period goals for Winchendon, with the latter standing up as the game-winner. Junior Marcus Macchioni scored the lone goal for Kents Hill. Wapiti goalie Giovanni Calvanese, a junior,  kicked out 25 of 26 for the win.

@ Kimball Union 4, Stanstead College 1 -- Sophomore F Corwith Simmers paced KUA, scoring twice -- the latter an ENG -- and adding an assist. Junior D Ian Ramsay had a pair of helpers. The Wildcats' senior goaltender, Dan Heroux, kicked out 30 of 31 shots. KUA has won six straight to improve to 13-4-0.

Taft 4 @ Canterbury 3 (OT) -- Late in the third period of a back-and-forth contest, Canterbury junior Ryan Stratton, with his second goal of the day, sent the game to overtime. There, Rhinos' senior JJ Lemieux found the back of the net to give Taft the road win. Taft sophomore Brady Morris, in his second start of the season, kicked out 32 of 35 for the win. Saints' junior Mitch Stenger (33/37) took the loss.

Lawrenceville 4 @ Albany Academy 1 -- Albany senior Austin Jerzak scored a power-play goal to break a scoreless tie in the early stages of the third, but Lawrenceville responded with four unanswered goals across the game's final 13 minutes to win handily. The game-winner belonged to junior Troy Negus. L'ville junior Kyle Ozgun (23/24) got the win in net. For AA, senior Devin Shakar went 28/32.

@ Brunswick 7, Hoosac 3 -- Juniors Sean Gibbons and Luc Lampert each scored twice to lead the Bruins in a home rout of the Owls, who dropped their third straight. Junior D-man Logan Kearley scored twice for the Owls. Brunswick backup Will Baker, a junior starting his fourth game of the year, was 20/23 in net. Hoosac senior Trey Thompkins (49/56) took the loss.

Dexter 2 @ Brooks 2 (OT) -- Dexter -- rather incredibly -- has five ties in its last six games. And they had to earn this one the hard way, coming back from a two-goal deficit on the road. Brooks, on goals by seniors Will Rassier and Jeremy Emchheld, held a 2-0 lead at the game's midway point. But senior d-man Mick Frechette single-handedly lifted the visitors to the tie, scoring a powerplay goal in the second, and the equalizer with less than five minutes left. Dexter has a total of seven ties on the season: three 2-2 games, and four 1-1 games.

@ Cushing 6, Loomis Chaffee 0 -- Cushing senior Cooper Rautenstrauch stopped all 21 shots he faced, including a handful of grade-A chances, as the Penguins rolled at home. Six different Cushing players scored, with junior Landan Resendes, a BC commit, having a couple of helpers to go along with his tally. Resendes's goal in the second and Linas Dedinas's in the third both came with the Penguins shorthanded. LC senior Andrew Heinze was 28/34 in net. Cushing, which took its first loss of the season Wednesday at Thayer, improves to 13-1-3. Loomis, which had won three straight, falls to 9-4-2.

@ Noble & Greenough 7, Andover 1 -- Three Bulldogs -- sophomore forwards Ted MacAusland and Dennis Davidson, and senior defenseman Will Brophy -- racked up a goal and two assists to lead Nobles' attack. Nobles sophomore G Thatcher Bernstein (15/16) played the first two periods, teaming up with junior Tyler Bloomfield (10/10) to earn the win. Nobles is 13-1-1 on the season. Andover, meanwhile, dips below .500 for the first time since December.

Kent 2 @ Salisbury 0 -- Kent completed a two-game season sweep of Salisbury behind junior Aidan Hopewell's 36-save shutout. Junior Jack Roberts scored a powerplay goal in the first. Senior Chris Bugliosi added another in the second. Salisbury's Matt Alberti, a PG goalie, went 18/20. With eight games still to play, Salisbury's sixth loss surpasses its 2021-22 loss total. Kent is 4-1-2 over its last seven games.

Exeter 4, Hotchkiss 1 -- In a neutral site game played at Eaglebrook School, Exeter was led by two goals from sophomore F Dryden Dervish -- both in the third period -- and a big 43-save performance from senior G Michael Salvatore. After starting the season 2-6-0, Exeter is 6-1-1 over its last eight games to go one game over .500 at 8-7-1. The lone Hotchkiss score was a 5x3 goal by senior Shayne Bjorn. Senior Grant Kloeber went 24/28 for the Bearcats, who are winless in three games since beating Avon.

@ Choate 5, Deerfield 3 -- In a game of runs, Choate led 4-0 in the third before Deerfield stormed back with three goals in a nine-minute span, drawing within a goal. However, Wild Boars' senior goalie Primo Baldassarre (27/30) held off the Big Green, and the hosts sealed the deal with an empty-netter. Seniors Jake Kavanagh (2g) and Evan Partridge (2a) led the Wild Boars; PG Nate Heithoff (1g,1a) and junior Tom Molson (2a) paced Deerfield. After an 0-8-4 start, Choate has won back-to-back games for the first time since 2017.

Rivers 5 @ BB&N 1 -- Freshman Stephen Rousell and junior Jacob Kulas tallied a goal and an assist apiece, helping Rivers to its second win over BB&N in a week's time. The Knights' only goal belonged to sophomore d-man Noah Rosado.

Cummings & Freshmen Lead Belmont Hill Past St. Mark's
Belmont Hill, Mass.
-- A short-handed strike from freshman forward Patrick Woods and a 21-save performance by fellow freshman JJ Thibodeau led Belmont Hill to a 4-1 win over St. Mark's here today.

The game's turning point came midway through the second period. With the score knotted at 1-1 and St. Mark's just 37 seconds into a powerplay, Belmont Hill senior center Brock Cummings swooped in on the forecheck, stripped the puck from the St. Mark's d-man on the goal line, pivoted, and, spotting an uncovered Woods flying down the slot, put a centering pass on his stick. The freshman wasted no time, snapping a quick wrister past St. Mark's senior goalie Jeevan Anand for what would prove to be the game-winner.

This Keller vs. Eberhart matchup was a good one from the opening faceoff, with a great pace, physical play, and up-and-down action. The game's first goal didn't come until 1:13 into the second when Belmont Hill senior forward Dane Carter cleaned up the rebound of a shot from sophomore d-man Lindan Verville. St. Mark's answered at the 8:06 mark, with sophomore Richard Gallant tucking the rebound of a Jimmie Lyver shot past Thibodeau to tie the game at 1-1. And that is how things stood for just a little over a minute, until Cummings and Woods teamed up to put the Hillies ahead to stay.

Belmont Hill would add a pair of goals in the third, with senior captain Ronan O'Donnell scoring on a 10-foot wrister that beat Anand high glove side at 6:53 and junior Jake McManus scoring on a wraparound with a little under four minutes remaining to make it 4-1 and putting the game out of reach for the visitors.
For the game, Belmont Hill had a 38-22 edge in shots.

For Bel Hill (8-4-2), it was their third straight win, and it put a halt to St. Mark's (10-3-0) four-game win streak. Both teams hit the road for their next games, heading on Saturday to seaside destinations. Belmont Hill (8-4-2) will be at Tabor, and St. Mark's (10-3-0) will be at St. George's.

And, in other Wednesday action...

Knights Blank Dragons!

@ Westminster 5, Canterbury 4 -- Westminster needed every last bit of the 5-1 lead it built through two periods to hold on and edge Canterbury despite the Saints' three unanswered goals in the third. Senior Jed Brazo (1g,1a) led the way for the Saints. Senior Chase Arnett (1g,2a) and junior Michael Bianco (2g) paced the Martlets. Junior goalie Matteo De Luca kicked out 24 of 28 shots for the win.

@ Frederick Gunn 7, Millbrook 0 -- Senior Michael Markowski and junior Alex LoGuercio potted two goals apiece and junior goalie Mitchell McCusker posted an 18-save shutout as the Highlanders rolled at home against Millbrook.

Proctor 2 @ St. Paul's 1 -- Two Proctor defensemen scored powerplay goals in the second -- junior Max O'Connell and senior Colin Kwak -- the latter of which stood up as the game-winner. The lone SPS goal came in the third, on the PP by junior Lino Viau. Hornets' sophomore goalie Chris Dakers went 26/27 in the win.

Portsmouth Abbey 2 @ Pingree 2 (OT) -- Pingree scored twice in the first and Abbey scored twice in the second, but nobody found the back of the net in the third or OT, despite six minor penalties in that time. Patrick McDevitt, Abbey's junior goalie, saved 23 of 25 shots. In the Pingree net, junior Nick Hubbard was 43/45.

@ Avon Old Farms 3, NMH 0 -- Behind Stephen Peck's 22-save shutout and goals from seniors Arthur Mirante, Joe Odyniec, and Nick Capasso, Avon blanked the Hoggers and handed NMH its fourth loss in six games. NMH junior goalie Tommy Adams (28/31) took the loss.

North Yarmouth Academy 3 @ Holderness 2 -- NYA scored twice in the final four minutes of regulation and dropped the Bulls to 9-4-0 on the year. Senior Louka Vamvakas tied the game with 3:16 remaining before classmate Daxton St. Hilaire won it with 1:01 left. Senior Aidan Farion (35/37) was the winner in net. Holderness junior Kolin Belliveau (20/23) took the loss.

Governor's 1 @ Groton 1 (OT) -- This one was a goaltenders' battle between Governor's senior Max LaCroix (30/31) and Groton junior Ethan Ramonetti (42/43). The stalemate was the third tie of the season for each side. Junior Devin Fitzgerald of Groton scored in the first; junior Michael Ranaldi of Gov's scored in the second.

Loomis Chaffee 2 @ Taft 1 (OT) -- Loomis senior Will Reardon, a Holy Cross recruit, tipped Eli Hull's shot past Taft goaltender Rudy Guimond to lift the visitors to an OT road win. It was a battle of two top goaltenders, as both Guimond (38/40) and Loomis senior Andrew Heinze (22/23) were stellar. Taft had led 1-0 on sophomore Preston Hidy's goal in the second before Loomis tied it up less than two minutes later on junior Cory Alissi's goal.

@ Salisbury 11, Trinity-Pawling 3 -- The Knights scored three goals in the first, four in the second, and four in the third, banishing some recent frustration while coasting to a home decision over one-win T-P. Junior G Cooper Flemming (19/22) earned the win. Junior F Nicolas Petrut (1g,5a) more than doubled his season point total, and senior Hayden Hanes (2g, 2a) and junior Anthony Biakabutuka (1g,3a) tallied four points each. The Pride lifted sophomore Gavin Geraghty after two periods and a 34/41 start, but junior Ethan Fehrenbaker (12/16) didn't fare much better in the third.

Hotchkiss 1 @ Kent 1 (OT) -- Kent junior Jack Roberts scored in the final minute of the second, but Hotchkiss junior D Michael Buenzow evened the score late in the third. A scoreless OT cemented the draw. Neither of the game's senior goaltenders, Kent's Harrison Fogel (24/25) or Hotchkiss's Grant Kloeber (30/31), was to be outdueled.

Kimball Union 4 @ Deerfield 3 -- His team trailing 2-1 as the game entered the middle of the third period, KUA junior F Sam LeDrew scored two goals -- just over five minutes apart -- to propel the Wildcats to a road win over Deerfield. The Big Green had established the early lead on goals by junior Tom Molson and senior Thomas Moreau. Deerfield's goalie, junior John Tolve, was 32/35 in the loss. Opposite him, KUA senior Dan Heroux, was 30/33 in the victory.

Andover 3 @ St. Sebastian's 3 (OT) -- Seb's trailed 3-1 with eight minutes left in the game, before junior Nolan Flynn came to the rescue with two goals in 20 seconds to tie the game at 3-3, where the score would stay for good. Andover had built a 2-1 lead after the first and extended it to 3-1 in the second, but failed to hold it.

@ Milton 3, Lawrence 1 -- Sam Caulfield, Milton's sophomore netminder who won MVP honors at December's Flood-Marr Tournament, made 27 stops on 28 shots to help the Mustangs to their 10th win of the year. Classmate Anthony Sergeyev (1g,1a) led the Mustang attack. LA's Jake Lewis scored a 6x5 goal with 2:11 left, but Milton answered with an empty-netter to seal the game. By the way, Caulfield, over his last three games, has allowed a total of two goals on 96 shots.

@ Thayer 4, Cushing 2 -- The Tigers, who entered the game 4-9-1, handed Cushing, previously unbeaten in 15 games, its first loss of the season. A run of three goals in the final five minutes of the first, by sophomores Teddy Lally, Tommy Anderson, and Charlie Wilkinson, put Thayer in front for good. Tigers' senior goalie Beau Lane (35/37) outdid Cushing senior Cooper Rautenstrauch (19/22) between the pipes.

@ Dexter Southfield 8, Austin Prep 0 -- Senior goalie Max Gatti saved all 12 shots he faced as Dexter blanked AP to climb to 7-5-5. Seniors Joe Hurton, Connor Sutherland, and Mick Frechette racked up three points apiece to lead Dexter.

@ Choate 4, Berkshire 3 -- The late-game heroics of juniors Owen Tunney -- who tied the game with 1:39 left -- and Benjamin Darche -- who scored the game-winner with 40 seconds remaining -- gave Choate its first win of the year on its 13th try. Sophomore Gordie Leary got his second start in net for the Wild Boars and kicked out 37 of 40 shots for the win. Berkshire's Danick Leroux, a Holy Cross commit, went 27/31 and took the loss. Among teams with 10 or more games played, only Roxbury Latin (0-10-1) remains winless.

Tilton 3 @ Brewster 2 (OT) -- Tilton senior D Cam Quigley scored the game-winner, from Tyson Sylvia and Kai Tsoar, with 35 seconds left in OT. The Rams have won 11 of 15. Earlier, Brewster PG Tyler Wasler had tied the game in the final five minutes of regulation. Rams' senior G Ben Ashton (30/32) picked up the win.

@ Winchendon 6, Hoosac 3 -- With the game tied 3-3 after two periods, Winchendon exploded for three third-period goals and won handily over the one-win Owls. Juniors Brendan Coughlin, Eli Deener-Chordirker, and Brock Bergeron scored the Wapitis' goals in the final frame. Winchendon junior goaltender Giovanni Calvanese (28/31) earned the win; Hoosac senior Trey Thompkins (41/46) took the loss.

@ Worcester 6, Pomfret 5 -- WA junior Connor Dozois capped his second hat trick of the season with the game-winner at 8:42 of the third. Senior teammate Ethan Jasmin (2g,3a) also came up big for the Hilltoppers, figuring in all but one of his team's goals. Pomfret, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, got two more goals from sophomore Luke Corrigan, who has five in his last four games. Freshman Wes DiModica (24/29) of Worcester was the winner in goal; Pomfret's Beau Johnson (17/22) took the loss.

BB&N 4 @ St. George's 0 -- Behind two goals from senior Paul McNiff and one each from seniors Will Rice and Alex Sandell, BB&N (3-11-1) blanked St. George's (10-4-0) on the road. It marked the first division loss of the season for the Dragons, who fall into second place in the ISL's Eberhart Division.

@ Berwick 2, Kents Hill 0 -- Behind a 26-save shutout from sophomore Matthew Pimentel, Berwick jumped to 7-9-0. Junior Michael Delage scored in the first. Sophomore Tanner Petalas scored a powerplay goal in the second.

Exeter Tops Andover in First Round of Rivalry
Dexter Tied Up for Third Straight Game
Salisbury Winless Streak Extends to 4 Games
Loomis's Heinze Holds off Hotchkiss
Seb's, Tabor Share Travis Roy Cup

Avon Old Farms 4 @ Kent 1 -- The Winged Beavers rebounded from back-to-back losses with a dominant road win. Senior linemates Joe Connor (2g) and Charlie Gollob (1g) combined for three goals in the second period to propel the visitors to victory. (Gollob, by the way, committed to Brown on Thursday.) Junior Sam Pfefferle scored Kent's only goal. AOF senior Stephen Peck stopped 21 of 22 shots for the win.

@ Taft 9, Choate 3 -- Led by senior center J.J. Lemieux's five-point day -- a hat trick and two helpers -- the Rhinos exploded for a season-high nine goals. In addition to Lemieux, big contributors included senior Jackson Holl (1g,3a), junior D Alexander Kenerson (4a), and junior forwards Archer Brown (3a), and Derek Tremblay (2g). Taft has won six of seven and improves to 8-3-0. The Wild Boars (0-8-3) are still looking for win #1.

@ NMH 3, Lawrenceville 0 -- NMH junior goalie Tommy Adams blanked Lawrenceville with a 21-save shutout. Sophomore Oliver Morris and senior Alex Ondos scored in the first; senior Joseph Dable scored in the third. Lawrenceville has dropped four of five since returning to play from winter break.

Exeter 6 @ Andover 3 -- Exeter tied things up at 2-2 early in the second, and rolled from there. Junior forwards Christian Maro (1g,3a) and Beau Elson (2g) led the way. Ethan Skowronek (1g,2a) figured in all three Andover goals. Exeter senior Michael Salvatore (30/33) earned the win in net. The two ancient rivals will meet again on Sat. Feb. 25, at Exeter.

Tilton 6 @ Vermont Academy 3 -- Tilton carried a 4-0 lead into the third period, but VA made it interesting with three third-period goals to cut the Rams' lead to 4-3. Tilton, however, scored a late PPG and ENG to salt away the win. Rams' senior captain Nicholas Fontaine had a pair of goals. Senior G Conor Waldron kicked out 23 of 26 for the win. VA junior G James Mikos (51/56) kept his team in the game.

@ Kents Hill 4, Worcester Academy 2 -- Kents Hill spotted their visitors a 2-0 first-period lead, but fought back with a pair of goals in the second, and two more in the third.

@ Brunswick 4, Hill 2 -- Brunswick, 5-3 losers at Hill Friday night, bounced back to take the second game in the home-and-home series, 4-2, behind a pair of goals from junior Sean Gibbons. 'Wick senior G Brendan Holahan (19/21) earned the win; Hill senior Ryan Sanborn (35/39) took the loss. Brunswick (9-6-0) has won 4 of its last 5. Hill has won 5 of its last 7.

@ North Yarmouth Academy 5, Académie Saint-Louis 2 -- Senior F Zach Stabb (2g) and senior G Euan Martin (28 saves) led NYA, which is undefeated in its last seven (6-0-1).

Portsmouth Abbey 5 @ Hebron 2 -- Sophomore F Hunter McCarthy broke a 2-2 third-period tie with a pair of goals two minutes apart to lead the Raven past Hebron. Junior G Patrick McDevitt (29/31) earned the win; Lumberjacks' junior G Julian Karagiannis (39/43) took the hard-luck loss. The Abbey has won three straight and are 6-6-1 on the season.

Dexter 1 @ New Hampton 1 (OT) -- Freshman Cam Caron scored a second-period goal for New Hampton, and sophomore Nate Porter put Dexter on the board in the third. The last three games for Dexter (6-5-5) have all ended in a tie.

@ Brewster Academy 4, Berwick 2 -- A hat trick from junior F Mason Meltzer and a 35-save effort from senior G Patrick Green led host Brewster past Berwick.

@ Westminster 5, Salisbury 1 -- Junior G Matteo De Luca kicked out 41 shots, and senior F Rowan Masse (2g,1a), junior D Patrick Dotson (1g,2a), and sophomore F Blake Burke (2g) paced the offense. The Martlets have won three straight, and improve to 6-4-0. Salisbury (7-5-2) is 0-3-1 in its four games since the break.

St. Mark's 5 @ Rivers 1 -- St. Mark's scored four first-period goals and rolled to the 5-1 road win. Five different Lions found the back of the net. St. Mark's has won four straight to improve to 10-2-0.

@ Berkshire 3, Williston 2 -- Berkshire junior Camden Raifstanger's second-period goal held up as the game-winner. Senior forwards Tanner Marsh and Jaden Davis scored the Bears other goals. Williston got its scoring from junior Riley Van Son and senior Felix-Antoine Bouchard. Berkshire's senior goaltenders, Cole O'Donnell and Danick Leroux, shared the win, combining to stop 40 of 42 shots.

@ Loomis Chaffee 3, Hotchkiss 1 -- Loomis scored a goal in each period -- senior Makai Tarjamo in the first, freshman Indiana Grossbard in the second, and junior Ben Carfora in the third -- en route to its first win of the new year. Hotchkiss, fresh off its upset win over Avon on Wednesday, got its only score when senior Brendan Bullock's wrist shot tipped off Andrew Heinze's glove. Heinze (36/37) stuffed a shorthanded 1-on-0 breakaway attempt with two minutes left to preserve what was, at the time, a one-goal lead.

@ Frederick Gunn 4, Stanstead College 4 (OT) -- Trailing 4-1 with 14 minutes remaining in the game, Gunn stormed back to tie the game on goals by senior Dylan Thorn, junior Connor Ferguson, and sophomore D Luke Calabria, whose power play strike evened the tally with 1:14 left. Gunn junior goalie Mitchell McCusker kicked out 27 of 31 shots for the Highlanders, who are undefeated (2-0-2) over their last four and improve to 10-3-2.

@ Pomfret 5, Millbrook 2 -- Senior F Aidan Durso scored two goals for Pomfret and junior G Zach Bloxam (28/30) picked up the win. Pomfret has won four straight and improves to 5-8-1. Millbrook has lost five straight and falls to 6-8-0.

@ Kimball Union 6, St. Paul's 1 -- The Wildcats scored five goals in the first and rolled to the win. Sophomore Andrew Sullivan (1g,3a), senior Jackson Kyrkostas (1g,3a), and junior Sam LeDrew (2g,1a) paved the way offensively. KUA (11-4-0) is unbeaten in its last five games (4-0-1) and improves to 11-4-0 on the season.

Tabor 3, St. Sebastian's 3 -- At the Travis Roy Cup at BU's Walter Brown Arena, Tabor scored twice in the final seven minutes of regulation to earn the draw. Down 3-1 in the third, senior Jack DesRuisseaux and junior Brad Guden scored four-and-a-half minutes apart. The Arrows goals came from junior Colin Gorman, sophomore Ben Merrill, and junior D Jack Connors. Tabor's Gus Ackerman saved 34 of 37.

@ Canterbury 6, Austin Prep 3 -- Senior Jed Brazo (2g,1a) and sophomore Ryan Lucarelli (1g,1a) paced Canterbury to its sixth win in 15 games. In the third, the Saints scored three times in 49 seconds to turn a 3-2 game into a blowout. AP's goals came from junior Derek Daley, sophomore Riley Fone, and junior Fisher Niehaus. Mitch Stenger, Canterbury's junior netminder, turned away 23 of 26 shots to pick up the win.

@ Holderness 4, Proctor 2 -- Senior Maxime Charbonneau scored twice and classmate Aidan O'Connell added a goal and an assist as the host Bulls won for the fourth time in their last five games to climb to 9-3-0. Senior goalie Evan Plunkett (25/27) got the win for the Bulls, while Proctor junior Caden Pasqualone (34/38) took the loss.

Taft 3 @ Avon 2
-- Taft junior goaltender Rudy Guimond was the story in this one, kicking out 55 of the 57 shots he faced as the Rhinos handed #1 Avon Old Farms its first loss of the season. Taft only mustered 14 shots on Avon senior G Stephen Peck, but three of them found the back of the net.

Avon took a 1-0 first-period lead on a goal from senior wing Joe Odyniec, a UConn commit. From that point until the 11:45 mark of the third, when Odyniec scored his second goal, Guimond was peppered, but nothing got past him.

Taft got on the board late in the second period on junior F Derek Tremblay's goal, tying the game at 1-1. Early in the third, Taft took a 2-1 lead on a goal from senior F Jackson Holl. Four minutes later, Rhinos junior F Shane Mettler pushed it to 3-1 with what would prove to be the game-winner.

Taft, in its first home game of the season back on December 7th -- suffered a 3-1 loss to the Winged Beavers. Avon also had a large shot advantage (48-24) in that one. So going into today, they knew what Guimond could do -- but came up short nonetheless.

North Yarmouth Academy 3 @ Roxbury Latin 2 -- A James Brogan-Provencher goal midway through the second would prove to be the game-winner. But this was a goalies' game, as NYA senior Aidan Farion (35/37) earned the win, while RL junior Evan Zhang (46/49) took the tough loss.

Berkshire 3 @ Williston Northampton 2 -- Berkshire senior F Clay O'Donnell scored a pair of first-period goals, but -- as Williston scored a late ENG -- it was Walker Bright's third-period goal that turned out to be the game-winner. Berkshire senior G Cole O'Donnell (Clay's brother) picked up the win, kicking out 40 of 42 shots. Williston PG Tyler Kirk (26/29) put in a solid effort at the other end. After starting the season with four straight losses, Berkshire has righted the ship, winning five of its last nine.

@ Portsmouth Abbey 5, Berwick 3 -- The Abbey broke a 3-3 third-period tie on a PPG from sophomore Hunter McCarthy, and added an empty-netter in the final minute to take the home win. Senior Josh Bonrouhi added two goals for the Ravens.

@ Pomfret 4, St. George's 1 -- Junior Louie Marcellino scored his first career hat trick and classmate Zach Bloxam turned aside 32 of 33 shots to lead the Griffins to the home win.

@ Cushing 5, Proctor 1 -- Watkins Tournament MVP F Landan Resendes followed up that performance with a three-point game (2g,1a). Linemates Ethan Gardula (3a) and Emerson Marshall (1g,1a) also came through for the Penguins, who outshot Proctor, 44-8, and stay undefeated at 9-0-3.

Hotchkiss 4 @ Millbrook 3 -- The Bearcats never trailed in this one, getting goals from four different scorers and a 21-save effort from sophomore G Connor Towle to even up their season record at 4-4-0.

@ Exeter 2, St. Pauls 2 (OT) -- Senior D Jack O'Brien's second goal of the game, at 12:57 of the third, salvaged the tie for host Exeter. Exeter senior G Michael Salvatore (33/35) and SPS sophomore Treva Murphy (35/37) kept this one tight throughout.

@ St. Sebastian's 4, Belmont Hill 3 -- Seb's, trailing 3-1 at home after two, scored three unanswered goals in the third -- from sophomore Teddy Mutryn (his second of the game), and juniors Nolan Flynn and Isaac Mitchell. Three of the Arrows' four goals came on special-teams play -- a SHG, a 5x4, and a 5x3. Junior Pelle Russo (32/35) earned the win. The Arrows improve to 9-3-0; Belmont Hill, the Elite 8 runners-up last season, falls to 5-4-2.

Andover 6 @ Choate 3 -- Andover held a 5-0 third-period lead, but allowed the host Wild Boars to get into it with three consecutive goals before salting it away with an empty-netter. Senior C Nolan Roche and senior wing Joey Zheng each had two goals for the Big Blue.

St. Mark's 5 @ Tabor 2 -- Sophomore forwards Drew Carr (2g) and Richard Gallant (2a) each notched two points, as did defensemen Maddox Lizotte (1g,1a) and Calvin Beard (2a). Senior G Jeevan Anand stopped 28 of 30 shots. And St. Mark's has won eight of its last nine.

@ Milton 2, Tilton 1 -- The Mustangs got goals from senior forwards Mikka Kelechian and Brendan Maher, and sophomore G Sam Caulfield (38/39) came up big, putting the kibosh on Tilton's offense, which came into the game averaging 5 GPG. Milton improves to 8-3-2. Tilton drops to 9-2-0.

@ Westminster 6, Trinity-Pawling 3 -- Senior Wade Volo (2g,2a) and sophomore Quinn Pine (2g,1a) led the Martlets attack, and junior G Matteo DeLuca (25/28) picked up the win.

@ Pingree 3, Kents Hill 1 -- Pingree got goals from sophomore forwards Max Guertin, Trevor Payne, and Theo Dimopoulos. Visiting Kents Hill hurt themselves by taking way too many penalties: seven, to be exact, including a game misconduct and two penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.

@ Deerfield 3, Salisbury 3 --- The defending prep champions, playing on the road, trailed 3-0 midway through the third but rallied with three goals over the last five minutes, with the game-tying tally, from senior F Hayden Hanes, coming with 9 seconds left. Deerfield junior G John Tolve (33/36) had a big game for the big Green. Salisbury junior Cooper Flemming kicked out 20 of 23 shots. Salisbury is 7-3-2, Deerfield is 4-4-1.

Nobles 1 @ Thayer 0 -- Freshman forward Billy MacAusland scored the only goal Nobles needed, and sophomore G Thatcher Bernstein posted a 21-save shutout. Thayer senior Beau Lane (19/20) took the hard-luck loss. Nobles improves to 10-1-1; Thyer is 4-7-1.

Albany Academy 5 @ Hill 2 -- Luke Kurdziolek (1g,2a), Michael Malatino (2g), and Jack Darby (2a) led the Cadets' attack. AA had been ahead, 3-0, late in the second period, but goals from Hill junior D Jack O'Brien and senior F Ryan Kearney pulled the hosts to within one. AA scored two empty-netters to seal it. Albany Academy improves to 7-2-0.

Holderness 2 @ Rivers 1 (OT) -- A goal from junior F Caden Wells midway through OT lifted the Bulls to the road win. Holderness improves to 7-2-0.

@ Loomis 4, Kent 4 -- In a back-and-forth contest, Kent scored a pair of goals early in the third to go up, 3-2. But Loomis answered with a pair of their own, striking twice within a minute-and-a-half to snatch it back, and take a 4-3 lead. Kent had the last word, though, as a goal from junior Jack Roberts with 53 seconds left, assisted by classmate Braden Pohlman, lifted the visitors to the 4-4 tie. Junior center Ryan Staples had two of Loomis's goals.

Brooks 5 @ Groton 2 -- Senior forward Will Rassier notched a hat trick, the final tally coming on an empty-netter, lifting Brooks to the road win. Brooks held what appeared to be a comfortable 4-0 lead with three minutes remaining, but Groton quickly struck for a pair to make it 4-2. Groton pulled its goalie, but no dice, as Rassier found the back of the net.
