Quackenbush's 34 Saves Leads Exeter Past Seb's
Dragons Hogtie Hoggers
Flaherty, Tighe, Palmer Lead Winged Beavers
Rivers' 8th Grader Meyer Notches PP Goal to Sink Thayer
Gibbons, Kittredge Lead Lions Past Brooks
Molson, Kohn Lead Big Green Past Wild Boars
Kent's Hopewell Keeps Salisbury at Bay
Dexter's Fast Start KO's Nobles

@ Exeter 4, St. Sebastian's 1 -- Seb's struck first, on senior Isaac Mitchell's PP goal four minutes in, but host Exeter did the rest of the scoring. Big Red junior Dryden Dervish (1g,1a), and post-grads Ryan O'Leary (1g,1a), and Nick Fasano (2a) paced the point-getters. Exeter's roster features five PGs, including goalie Brady Quackenbush, who earned his fourth win of the year with a stellar 34/35 showing. Seb's senior G Pelle Russo (20/23) took the loss.

@ Tabor 4, North Yarmouth Academy 2 -- Tabor senior F Kai Roberto scored twice and tacked on a helper to lead the Seawolves (2-2-0) to a home victory over NYA. The Tabor captain's first goal didn't come until he broke a scoreless tie more than midway through the second, but it opened the floodgates, and the hosts never looked back. Junior G Owen Byers (18/20) picked up the win.

@ St. George's 8, Northfield Mt. Hermon 1 -- The Dragons scored eight goals and lifted starting goalie Ryder Shea before NMH finally cracked the scoreboard in the final seven minutes. Sophomore Max Donatelli (2g,1a), junior Owen Mulhern (1g,2a), junior Danny Buckley (1g,2a), and senior Tate Pecknold (3a) all tallied three points to lead the Dragons. Shea (10/10) and senior Nikolas Barnes (5/6) split the win in net. SGS, behind new head coach Allie Skelley and a myriad of roster additions, is off to a 3-1-0 start.

@ Winchendon 10, BB&N 2 -- Winchendon senior Cal Fielder scored a goal and assisted on four of his teammates' tallies, leading the Wapiti (1-4-0) to a blowout win in a battle of previously winless teams. Winchendon junior Declan Rabe scored twice; so did BB&N captain Brady MacCutcheon. Senior G Giovanni Calvanese (15/17) earned the win between the pipes.

Portsmouth Abbey 4 @ Hebron 3 -- The Abbey (3-2-0) took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission, but Hebron struck twice in a two-minute span in the third to draw within one. The Lumberjacks couldn't crack senior G Patrick McDevitt (28/31) in the final five minutes, though, and the Ravens held on to eke out the win. Junior Noah Jimbo and freshman Connor Nolan each tallied a goal and a helper for the victors. Hebron junior Andy Blais scored twice; his teammate, senior G Julian Karagiannis (30/34) took the loss in net.

Avon Old Farms 6 @ Trinity-Pawling 1 -- Seniors Ryan Flaherty (a Holy Cross commit) and Brendan Tighe (a Brown pledge) each scored twice, helping Avon to a comfortable road win in eastern New York. Sophomore G Anthony Palmer (22/23) picked up his second win of the season. For T-P, senior Damion Busch scored the only goal and junior G Gavin Geraghty (32/37) suffered the loss. John Gardner's crew is unbeaten through four games for the fifth straight season.

@ Rivers 3, Thayer 2 -- Rivers F Carter Meyer scored the game-winner on the PP with less than six minutes to go. Through six games, Meyer has three goals and two assists — not bad for an eighth-grader! Of the game's five goals, three were scored on the man advantage. Eleven minor penalties were assessed in all, plus a 10-minute misconduct penalty against Thayer senior Ryan Mottau for unsportsmanlike conduct that'll force him out of the next game. Red Wings senior G Brendan Nee was 34/36 in the win.

St. Mark's 4 @ Brooks 1 -- Behind a three-point day from senior F Andrew Gibbons, St. Mark's pulled away with three unanswered goals to win on the road in North Andover. The score was tied 1-1 after the first, but Gibbons scored what ended up as the game-winner nearly eight minutes into the second and junior G Cassidy Kittredge (21/22) kept the hosts off the board for the final 36 minutes. The Lions (4-2-0) are unbeaten since their 0-2-0 start.

@ Berkshire 3, Lawrenceville 0 -- Berkshire junior G Kyle Bolduc stopped all 25 shots he faced and his teammates backed him with a goal in each period — the latter two on the PP — to help the Bears (3-2-0) snap a two-game skid. Post-grad Stephen Campbell paced the attack with a goal and an assist. For Lawrenceville, senior Kyle Ozgun (27/30) took the tough-luck loss.

Worcester Academy 4 @ Kents Hill 3 -- In a game that featured ten minor penalties and a major, Worcester's Connor Dozois -- a 30-goal scorer last season -- scored his first goal of this season and added two helpers to lead the Hilltoppers to a nail-biting road win. KHS had pulled within one on Sam Stejskal's goal with less than 11 minutes left, but WA senior G Braden Clifford (27/30) fended off the Huskies the rest of the way. Senior Kody Yancey (24/28) got the loss in the opposite crease.

@ Frederick Gunn 5, Williston Northampton 0 -- Less than 24 hours removed from a Friday night loss at Kent — its first defeat of the year — Gunn rebounded with a 5-0 blanking of Williston behind a 20/20 performance from senior G Mitchell McCusker. Alex LoGuercio (2g), Jacob Rothman (1g,1a), Luke Calabria (1g,1a), and Mark Pizzo (2a) all figured in the Highlander attack. Williston senior G Jake Henry (39/44) saw a lot of rubber.

Proctor 8 @ St. Paul's 2 -- Entering their matchup at Gordon Arena in Concord, St. Paul's was unbeaten through three games, and Proctor winless through four. Suffice to say that's why they play the games. The Hornets scored twice in the first, twice in the second, four times in the third, and won in a rout over their Lakes Region neighbors. Proctor junior F Beckett Homlish's two goals led all scorers, but nine of his teammates also registered at least a point.

@ Cushing 6, Hill 1 -- Ten different Penguins had their names inscribed on the scoresheet as Cushing moved to 5-0-0 on the young season. Seniors AJ Sacco (2g) and Emerson Marshall (1g,1a) were among the multi-point scorers for the hosts. Hill's only goal came from junior Liam Sheward in the second. Cushing senior G Marko Bilic (30/31) picked up the win; his Hill counterpart Michael Kealey (37/43) was charged with the loss.

Brunswick 2 @ Westminster 2 (OT) -- In what was, by all accounts, a well-played and hard-fought battle at Jackson Rink in Simsbury, OT wasn't enough to decide a winner. A pair of Westy goals in the second were bookended by Brunswick scores in the first and third. Bruins senior F Brendan Giles scored a shorty that tied the game early in the third, and neither goaltender cracked after that. If Westy senior G Matteo De Luca (28/30) was great, then Brunswick's Will Baker (40/42) was stellar. The Martlets (3-0-1) remain undefeated, while Brunswick goes to 2-1-2.

Loomis Chaffee 4 @ Canterbury 2 -- For the third straight year, Canterbury struck first against Loomis, but, also for the third straight year, Loomis stormed back to win. Four different Pelicans found the back of the net, including freshman Nikolai Bazalitski, who scored his first prep goal. LC seniors Ethan Woolcott and Cory Alissi had two assists apiece and junior G Liam Joyce earned his third win with a 27/29 showing. Canterbury junior Maxim Pitts (18/22) took the loss

Pomfret 5 @ Pingree 3
-- Pomfret scored three unanswered goals in the first, but host Pingree battled back, cutting the visitor's lead to 4-3 late in the third, but a little over a minute later Pomfret added an ENG to salt it away. Pomfret junior forwards Ethan Chiweshe (1g,1a) and Luke Corrigan (2a); and Pingree junior D Max Kirianov (1g,1a) and senior F Ryan Kavanagh (2a) each had two points to lead all scorers. Pomfret sophomore G Joey Mitchell (36/38) earned the win; Pingree senior Nick Hubbard (30/34) took the loss.

Milton 5 @ Governor's 2 -- Gov's cut Milton's lead to 3-2 early in the third, but two empty-netters from the Mustangs put the game to bed. Juniors Luis Valencia (1g,2a) and Danny Lee (1g,1a) led Milton scorers; Senior Alec Baineau (1g,1a) and freshman Spencer Thornborough (2a) each put up two points for Gov's. Milton junior G Sam Caulfield (36/39) took the win; Gov's junior Zach Ericson (36/39) took a tough-luck loss.

@ Andover 4, New Hampton 1 -- Andover scored twice in the second, and twice more in the third. Four different scorers found the back of the net. Andover is 5-0-0 on the young season.

@ Holderness 6, Vermont Academy 1 -- The Bulls spread out their attack as seven different players notched two points. Bulls' senior G Ryan Nolan (18/19) earned the win; VA senior James Mikos (49/55) took the tough loss. Holderness is 5-0-0 thus far; VA remains winless (0-4-1).

Deerfield 7 @ Choate 1 -- Deerfield senior forwards Tom Molson (2g,1a) and Jakub Kohn (1g,2a) each had three points to lead all scorers. The Big Green are 3-0-0 while the Wild Boars drop to 0-3-0.

Kent 4 @ Salisbury 2 -- Kent senior Gio DiGiulian put the visitors up 1-0 in the first, PG Fionn Keon made it 2-0 in the second. In the third, the two teams alternated goals, enabling the Crimson Knights to cut Kent's lead to 3-2 before DiGiulian scored his second goal of the game, an empty-netter, for the 4-2 final. Kent senior G Aidan Hopewell (35/37) came up big for the Lions; Salisbury senior Cooper Flemming (19/22) took the loss.

Dexter 5 @ Nobles 2 -- Dexter came out hard, playing a physical, fast-paced game, and scoring first as a Cullen Emery shot from the half-wall put the visitors up 1-0 at the first intermission. Dexter kept the pressure on in the second, as freshman Noah Survilas, taking a pass from Emery while driving the net, scored at 3:47. In the middle of the period, Dexter's Tyler Hamilton and Henry Butte scored 43 seconds apart to give Dexter a 4-0 lead. That was all the scoring Dexter would need. A good thing for them, because Nobles began to get back into the game, helped in part by Dexter penalties, which included a major and game misconduct to Ian Burke. Dexter was able to weather all that, but it caught up to them in the third when Billy MacAusland and Ben Nakata scored for Nobles to cut it to 4-2. But that was as close as the Bulldogs got as Butte scored an empty-netter for the final margin of victory. Dexter head coach Danny Donato was assessed a bench minor, the first of his career, in the third period. In total, there were 15 penalties in the game, eight to Dexter and seven to Nobles.

Tilton 7 @ New Hampton 5 -- A wild second period saw New Hampton score three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead, whereupon Tilton scored three of the next four — including two in the final 3:08 — to even the tally. The Rams carried that momentum into the third, where junior D Andrew Asconi-Feldman notched the game-winner. Four of Tilton's seven goals came on the PP.

@ Avon Old Farms 5, Taft 2 -- After Taft took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission, the Winged Beavers exploded for four goals in the third to pull out the win. Fifth-year F Alex Pelletier tallied a hat-trick to pace the winners. Avon junior G Michael Heinke, whose dad Mike was a goalie at Avon who went on to UNH and whose cousin is Quinnipiac forward Timothy Heinke, picked up his second win of the season with a 20/22 showing. Taft junior G Brady Morris (24/28) was the loser. The defending Large School champion Rhinos (0-3-0) are off to their worst start since 2017.

@ Holderness 9, Brewster Academy 0 -- The Bulls scored twice in the first, three times in the second, and four times in the third, coasting to the home win. Senior Aaron VanWie (2g,2a) and post-grad Pavit Mehra (1g,3a) led Holderness with four points apiece. Senior G Ryan Nolan put together a perfect 21/21 day in net, lifting Alan Thompson's squad to 3-0-0 on the young season.

St. Mark's 8 @ Worcester Academy 2 -- Led by senior F Jonathan Balzarini (2g,1a), seven different Lions found the back of the net. Freshman F Cam MacPherson (1g,2a), Senior D Calvin Beard (1g,2a), and senior F Andrew Gibbons (3a) also joined the three-point party. Senior Ike Dutton and junior Chris Hughes scored for the Hilltoppers. Junior goalie Justin BriseBois (22/24) earned the win in net for St. Mark's.

Cushing 5 @ Williston Northampton 0 -- Senior F Emerson Marshall scored twice and added a helper; and senior G Marko Bilic stopped all 12 shots he faced as Cushing coasted on the road in Easthampton. Cushing scored one of their five goals on the PP and another 4x4, in a game that saw Williston commit eight minor penalties. The Penguins (4-0-0) may be without the key components of last year's squad that won 25 games, but they have depth -- and haven't skipped a beat.

Loomis Chaffee 4 @ Pomfret 3 -- Senior F Easton Swift cleaned up a loose rebound with 27 seconds left to lift Loomis (3-0-0) to a road win at Pomfret. Swift's game-winner broke the Pelicans' nearly 44-minute scoreless spell. They'd taken a 3-0 lead in the first 11 minutes, then watched the lead dwindle as the Griffins scored twice at the end of the first and tied the score in the second. JR Zavisza's team is one of the most experienced in prep hockey: 13 of their 15 goals have been scored by returning players. Junior G Luke Quinn, who transferred from St. John's Prep, went 29/32 and earned the win in his LC debut. Pomfret goalie Zach Bloxam, a senior captain, was 28/32 in the loss.

Brunswick 5 @ Kent 4 -- Despite a myriad of penalties, Brunswick used three key penalty kills — a five-minute major in the second, a 5x3 at the start of the third, and a minor in the final minutes — to survive on the road at Kent. The Bruins held a 3-0 lead at the game's midpoint, but Kent got back within one with two goals in a span of 30 seconds in the second. When ’Wick expanded the lead to 5-2, the Lions again scored back-to-back goals to narrow the lead to one. Time ran out, however, and Kent's comeback was not to be. Brunswick junior Tucker Spiess and senior Brendan Giles both scored twice; Spiess tacked on a helper. Kent senior Gio DiGiulian, a Cornell recruit, scored twice to lead the home side. In a battle of senior netminders ’Wick's Will Baker (23/27) did just enough to outduel Kent's Aidan Hopewell (19/24). The Bruins (2-1-1) climb above .500 for the first time, while Kent has lost two straight to fall to 2-2-0.

St. Paul's 2 @ Vermont Academy 1 -- SPS junior Patrick Cooley scored a 4x4 goal in the final minutes of the second, and that proved to be all the Pelicans needed to hold on. Cooley's classmate, goalie Treva Murphy, kicked out all but one of the 29 shots he saw. VA senior James Mikos (42/44) took the hard-luck loss. Don't look now, but St. Paul's is 3-0-0 for the first time in a decade.

Frederick Gunn 5 @ Berkshire 4 -- Gunn senior F Alex LoGuercio buried the game-winner on the PP nearly 10 minutes into the third, settling a seesaw battle that included four lead changes and three ties. The Bears held three separate leads, but the Highlanders fought back to tie the score each time. Junior D Luke Calabria (2a) led Gunn's point-getters while Berkshire's Evan Regan posted a hat trick in the loss.

Dexter 3 @ Exeter 2 (OT) -- Dexter junior Sean Leetch — the son of Avon Old Farms and New York Rangers legend Brian Leetch — won the game for the visitors 1:22 into OT. His teammate, senior F Henry Butte, had scored his second goal of the game minutes earlier to force the extra period. Colin Davis (18/20) was the winner in net, while Exeter's Brady Quackenbush (35/38) played well despite the loss.

@Salisbury 4, Hotchkiss 1 -- Hotchkiss senior Brennan Cail broke a scoreless deadlock just over 10 minutes into the second, but it was all Salisbury from there. The Crimson Knights scored twice late in the second and twice in the third to pull away. Salisbury junior Ryan Hedley (2g) and post-grad Zach Walsh (2a) led the come-from-behind effort. Hotchkiss junior G Connor Towle (42/45) was sensational, but the host's attack proved too much. Salisbury senior Cooper Flemming (13/14) got the win, helping to lift Salisbury to 3-0-0.

@ Groton 5, Roxbury Latin 1 -- The Zebras rode four unanswered goals in the second and third to prevail on their home ice. Sophomore KJ Ni paced the victors' attack with a pair of goals, and teammates Alejandro Hassan and Allen Fang added two helpers apiece. Senior Jake Novak tallied the lone score for the Foxes. Groton senior G Ethan Ramonetti (26/27) earned the win; RL senior Evan Zhang (34/39) suffered the loss.

@ Belmont Hill 3, Governor's 2 -- Gov's scored twice in a five-minute span in the third period, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 3-0 advantage its hosts had built in the first two. Sophomore Jake Tavares's two goals led the Bel Hill attack. Freshman F Robbie Daley (1g,1a) paced the visitors. The Sextants climb to 1-1-0 with the win; Governor's is now 3-1-0 after its first loss.

Westminster 7 @ Choate 4 -- Westy (3-0-0) used an unrelenting attack — and six different goal-scorers — to down Choate. Martlets sophomore Jake Pleau and Wild Boars' senior Benjamin Darche both scored twice. Sophomore G Jack Fichthorn, Westy's backup, went 28/32 in his first prep start.

Deerfield 5 @ NMH 3 --
Senior Cam Herr's goal at 13:40 of the third period broke a 3-3 tie, and three minutes later junior Lance Roberts salted away the win with an empty-netter. Earlier, 5:27 into the second period, the Big Green held a two-goal lead but gave it up, as the Hoggers got goals from junior Blake Baksay, his second of the game, and Dan Tracy. Deerfield outshot NMH, 39-20. NMH sophomore D Liam Newell was assessed a game misconduct for boarding and will have to sit out the next game.

Andover 5 @ Thayer 4 -- Andover scored three straight third-period goals -- the game-winner coming on a SHG from junior Peyton Militello at 16:21 -- to come back from a 4-2 deficit to take a big road win. Senior Ben Skowronek (39/43) earned the win in the Big Blue net; Thayer sophomore Tyler Moschella (18/23) took the loss. Freshman Alex Theodore had a pair of goals for Andover and Militello had two assists to go along with his goal; Junior Brady Kudrick (2g) and freshman Michael Federico (2g) scored the Thayer goals.

@ Nobles 5, Tabor 4 -- An OT goal from junior F Ethan Cox -- his second tally of the game -- lifted host Nobles to a come-from-behind win over Tabor. Earlier, Nobles went up 3-2 on a second-period goal from junior F Ted McAusland, but Tabor junior F Will Doherty scored a pair of goals a little over a minute apart to give the Seawolves a 4-3 lead at the second intermission. In the third junior F Dennis Davidson tied it up for Nobles, sending it into OT, where Cox came through, keeping the Bulldogs undefeated at 3-0-0. Nobles junior F Kyle O'Leary led all scorers with a goal and two assists. Bulldogs senior goaltender Tyler Bloomfield (30/34) picked up the win. Tabor senior Brayden Bennett (37/42) took the hard-luck loss.

St. George's 6 @ Rivers 1 -- Senior G Ryder Shea, a Maine commit, kicked out 25 of 26 shots to lead the Dragons to the win. Sophomore F Max Donatelli (1g,2a), sophomore D Marco Senerchia (1g,1a), and senior F Troy Hayes (1g,1a) led all scorers.

Kents Hill 9 @ NYA 1 -- Kents Hill sophomore G Tristan Bourassa (38/39) had a big game in goal, and seniors  Tanner Cole and Mathis Turgeon, and junior Felix-Antoine Parenteau each had two goals.

Millbrook 4 @ Wilbraham Monson 2 -- Millbrook got goals from four different scorers and sophomore Dean Repaci (11/13) got the win in net. Millbrook held a 36-13 edge in shots.

Lawrence Academy 4 @ Milton 1 -- The visiting Spartans never trailed in this one, as senior forwards Spencer Hirsch and Owen Leahy each had a pair of goals. Hirsch's second goal was an empty-netter. LA, the defending Small School champions, have picked up where they left off last year, with three straight wins to start the season.

@ Lawrenceville 2, Hill 2 (Triple OT) -- After Hill took a 2-0 first-period lead, Lawrenceville came back with one in the second and one in the third, senior F Troy Negus scoring at 15:28 to send it into OT -- three OT's that is, before calling it a day. Both goalies, Hill junior Michael Kealey and L'ville senior Kyle Ozgun, kicked out 44 of 46 shots.

@ St. Sebastian's 8, Portsmouth Abbey 1 -- Sophomore F Casey Mutryn (2g,1a) and senior D Aidan Connors (1g,2a) each had three points. Isaac Mitchell, Ty Hymovitz, Brendan Keaveney, and Ben Merrill each had a goal and a helper.

Brooks 6 @ Middlesex 4 -- In a back-and-forth game, Brooks senior F Danny Valenti's goal 5:09 into the third period turned out to be a big one, as host Middlesex followed with goals from senior F Bryan Tang and junior F Matt Egan to cut their deficit to 5-4 before Brooks junior F Griffin Bucci sealed the win with an empty-netter.

Musical Chairs

Just as surely as the sun will rise, Venus will spin backward, and people will post stupid pet tricks on YouTube, there will be a new crop of coaches in prep school hockey. Here are the ones for this season:

First off, two are changing schools. Kevin Czepiel, after six years coaching at NMH, his alma mater, has moved on to the Berkshire School, where he replaces Dan Driscoll, who retired after coaching prep hockey for 24 years and amassing over 400 wins. Driscoll was at Berkshire for the last 14 of those years, serving as both coach and AD. So Czepiel has big shoes to fill. But he also has the bona fides. After taking over a Hoggers team that had won five games the previous season, Czepiel's first year at NMH was a rebuilding year, after which he had winning teams every year for the next five before being hired at Berkshire last spring. Three of Czepiel's players from NMH followed him to Berkshire: defenseman Jack Turowsky and goalies Tommy Adams and Kyle Bolduc.

Taking Czepiel's position at NMH is Jake Bennett, a former Nobles defenseman and Trinity College grad. Bennett only got the job in August. The school had previously hired Matt Harlow back in March for the position, but in August the NY Rangers wooed him away: he is now the Director of Hockey Operations for the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL). Harlow, a teammate of Bennett's at Nobles, knew of Bennett's work co-directing, with his brother,  the All-American Prospects summer program. Six years ago, Dale Reinhardt hired Bennett as his assistant at Kent. Now, Bennett arrives at NMH, where he will take over an inexperienced program with only three returnees, all juniors: a goalie, Luke Laurino, who only played 30 minutes, last season, and forwards Mateo LaHale and Max Myagkov. Twenty-two members of this year's Hoggers team are new to the school.

Allie Skelley, a former Exeter and St. Lawrence University d-man with nine years of prep head coaching experience under his belt -- including a stint at Holderness -- has moved from Portsmouth Abbey to St. George's, just a few miles down the road. Skelley will be taking over for Jeff Dwyer, who'll be moving to Thayer, though not in a coaching capacity, at least for now. At Portsmouth Abbey, Skelley's '18-19 team went 0-21-1. The next year was barely better. But a few years later, the Ravens went 17-7-3 and made the NEPSAC Small School semis. They followed that up with another winning season last year. Taking Skelley's place at PA will be Zach Cappelli. Originally from North Providence, RI, Cappelli played his prep hockey at the Hoosac School and New England College. He later became head coach at Hoosac, and was an assistant at Winchendon School and Nichols College. He owns Level Up Hockey, a player development program.

Though he continues working in several different capacities in hockey, Paul Cannata stepped down after 18 seasons at Milton Academy. Cannata, after eight seasons as an assistant at Northeastern, pulled a moribund program out of the doldrums, leading the Mustangs to an Elite 8 title in 2011 where, at the Salem (NH) Icenter, high-scoring defenseman Pat McNally and company edged Kent, 2-1.

Taking over at Milton is former Dartmouth College defenseman Jim Gaudet who, for the last two years, has worked as an assistant on Jamie Rice's Babson squad, which last season reached the Div. III NCAA Tournament, losing to eventual champion Hobart. Before that, Gaudet, the son of longtime Dartmouth head coach Bob Gaudet, coached and was director of youth hockey in the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs organization. Previously, while working in the Mid-Atlantic area as a project engineer in the construction business, Gaudet served as an assistant for the Navy club program before serving three years as a head coach for the University of Maryland club team.

Mike Busconi, who attended Winchendon, from which he graduated in 2013, was hired at his alma mater in August after working in recent years as an assistant on Robbie Barker's staff at Lawrence Academy as well as a coach and youth program director with the Islanders Hockey Club (NCDC). Busconi has a good handle on Mass and New England youth players, which should serve him well in his new position.

At Brewster Academy, Connor Bates takes over from Billy Rivellini. Bates played his college hockey at Johnson & Wales (NCAA Div. III) where he was captain in his senior year. Before coming to Brewster, Bates coached the New England Wolves for four seasons.

Seniors Lefty Markonidis, Brendan Tighe, and Blake Jones each had two-point days for the Winged Beavers.

@ Canterbury 4, Hotchkiss 1 -- After a scoreless first period, the visiting Bearcats got on the board first, but the Saints took over after that, scoring the next four. PG forward Duncan Stewart had two of the goals, while senior D Jake Stevens assisted on two others. Saints' junior G Maxim Pitts (23/24) picked up the win; Hotchkiss junior Connor Towle (38/42) was solid in a losing effort.

Brunswick 8, New Hampton 3 -- At the Exeter Invitational, Brunswick junior F Oliver Czaja (2g,1a) and senior F Sean Gibbons (1g,2a) each had three points. Junior Tucker Spiess (2g) also had a big day, as did senior forwards Brendan Giles (1g,1a) and Ryan Wachtel (2a), and junior F Alex Melillo (2a). St. Paul's 7 @ Tilton 2 -- Junior F Patrick Cooley (1g,2a), sophomore F Andersen Kilbourne (2g), senior F Lino Viau (2g), and senior D Brad Cox (2a) led the SPS attack, while sophomore G Blake Truchon (38/40) came up big in net. Tilton outshot SPS, 40-18, but to no avail.

@ St. Mark's 3, Winchendon 1 -- Winchendon took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but seniors Calvin Beard and Austin Borggaard scored 22 seconds apart in the second period and the host Lions held on. Junior goaltender Cassidy Kittredge made his prep debut and kicked out 19 of 20 for the win.

@ Loomis 4, Trinity-Pawling 1 -- Loomis sophomore F Indiana Grossbard (great name!) had a goal and an assist, as did senior F Ben Carfora. Junior Liam Joyce (19/20) earned the win in net. T-P goalie and senior captain Ethan Fehrenbaker (25/28) took the loss.

Rivers 4, KUA 2 -- At the Exeter Invitational, Rivers senior G Jason Delehoy (32/34) came up big to lead Rivers to the upset win. After Rivers senior Cayden Miceli scored a SHG in the first, KUA came back in the second, taking a 2-1 lead on goals from senior forwards Kyle Murray-Smith and Max Kimelman. Rivers quickly tied it up on a PPG from sophomore Justin Graf (brother of Quinnipiac top gun Collin Graf) as the two teams took a 2-2 tie into the second intermission. Rivers scored the only goals in the third, from Miceli -- his second of the game -- and junior Wall Hatten. KUA senior Colby Boyce (20/24) took the loss in the Wildcats' net.

@ Holderness 11, Pingree 2 -- Host Holderness led 2-1 after one, 4-2 after two, and then ran away with it, scoring seven unanswered goals in the third. Junior F Tanner Petalas had a hat trick and two assists for a 5-point outing. Junior Eli Chilicki (4a), and seniors Jake Boulanger (2g,1a), and Caden Wells (2g) were the other top scorers for the Bulls. Holderness senior G Ryan Nolan (24/26) earned the win. Holderness put 50 shots on Nick Hubbard and Luke Marinelli, the beleaguered Pingree goaltenders.

@ Deerfield 5, Groton 2 -- Junior Justin Tavares had a hat trick and added an assist and senior G John Tolve kicked out 23 of 25 shots to lead the Big Green in their season opener. Frederick Gunn 5, Exeter 2 -- At the Exeter Invitational, junior Will Jackson (2g,1a), senior Antonio Donahue (1g,1a), and junior Billy Collins (2a) led the Gunn attack and senior G Mitchell McCusker (32/34) earned the win in net. Exeter PG goaltender Brady Quackenbush (20/24) took the loss.

Berkshire 4 @ Taft 3 -- Berkshire took a 4-1 lead into the third, but host Taft fought back with a pair of late goals to put a scare into the Bears. Taft sophomore Carson Lowry (2g,1a) figured in all Rhinos' goals. Sophomore Matt Lacombe and junior Duncan Thompson each had a goal and an assist for Berkshire. Taft junior G Brady Morris kicked out 41 of 45 shots but took the hard-luck loss.

@ Lawrenceville 6, Millbrook 2 -- Millbrook outshot host L'ville, 34-26, but came up short in the matter of putting pucks in the net. Big Red senior forwards Porter Byrd-Leitner (4a) and Luke Benitez (2g,1a) led all scorers, and senior G Kyle Ozgun (32/34) earned the win.

Kent 9, Hebron 2 -- At the Exeter Invitational, Kent built on their 3-1 first-period lead with a six-goal explosion in the middle stanza to put this one far out of reach. Lions senior forwards Michael Fiedorczuk (4g), Gio DiGiulian (1g,2a), and Owen Mahar (2g) led the onslaught, and Teddy Mallgrave, Fionn Keon, and Denver Damphousse each had a pair of assists. Kent outshot Hebron, 63-15.

@ Brooks 4, BB&N 1 -- Brooks junior Ethan Roy kicked out 28 of 29 shots and senior D Scott Moritz (3a) and freshman F Andrew Martin (1g,1a) led the Brooks attack. BB&N sophomore goalie James Potter (36/40) took the loss.
