New England Prep Hockey Rankings

Rank Record The Skinny
1
Cushing
13-1-3
(2 ) TEAM GPG/GAA: 4.59/1.69 -- -- The Penguins were knocked off their undefeated perch by Thayer goaltender Beau Lane on Jan. 18, but bounced back a few days later with a decisive 6-0 blanking of a good Loomis team. MOST RECENTLY: Beat Salisbury, Deerfield, W&M, and Loomis; lost to Thayer. THIS WEEK: @ NMH (Wed.), vs. Exeter (Sat.)
2
Noble & Greenough
13-1-1
(3) TEAM GPG/GAA: 4.07/1.80 -- Only loss of season came to Hotchkiss, a 3-2 decision at the Flood-Marr (on the day they played two games). Ten straight wins since then. Sophomore G Thatcher Bernstein (1.55/.939) continues to impress. MOST RECENTLY: Beat LA, Middlesex, and Andover. THIS WEEK: vs. St. Seb's (Wed.), vs. Rivers (Fri.)
3
Avon Old Farms
13-2-0
(1) TEAM GPG/GAA: 4.33/1.22 -- Senior G Stephen Peck (1.22/.945) is the last line of defense for a Winged Beavers' squad that in 15 games has allowed only 18 goals against. The stingiest team in prep hockey, by a wide margin. MOST RECENTLY: Beat Kent, NMH, Berkshire, and Westy; lost to Hotchkiss. THIS WEEK: vs. Loomis (Wed.), @ Choate (Sat.)
4
Tabor
9-2-4
(6) TEAM GPG/GAA: 3.33/2.42 -- Check out that goals for/against number: the difference is 0.91. Only one other team in this poll (Taft) has such a narrow gap. Don't know how things will look in a month or so, but so far they're beating the teams they 'should' beat, and playing .500 (2-2-3) against the iron, i.e. teams in this poll. MOST RECENTLY: Beat Milton; tied Seb's and Bel Hill. THIS WEEK: @ Thayer (Wed.), vs. LA (Fri.)
5
Milton
11-4-2
(5) TEAM GPG/GAA: 3.00/1.92 -- The Mustangs, like Tabor, have a very narrow GPG/GAA gap (1.08). Also like Tabor, they more than hold their own against teams in this poll, going 3-2-1. Both those losses have been to Tabor (yes, they meet for a third time, at Tabor, on Feb. 8th). MOST RECENTLY: Beat Gov's, LA, Pomfret; lost to Tabor. THIS WEEK: @ SPS (Wed.), vs. St. George's (Sat.)
6
Kimball Union
13-4-0
(8) TEAM GPG/GAA: 4.11/1.98 -- Here are the Wildcats' four losses: to Stanstead on Nov. 20 (Stanstead has already played 16 games), to Nobles and to Milton at the Flood-Marr, and to Culver at the True Cup. No shame there. Have won six in a row, and are 5-0-0 vs. Lakes Region teams. MOST RECENTLY: Beat VA, Tilton, SPS, Deerfield, and Stanstead. THIS WEEK: @ Proctor (Tues.), vs. Exeter (Wed.), vs. Tilton (Sat.)
7
Belmont Hill
8-4-3
(N/R) TEAM GPG/GAA: 3.47/2.21 -- Like Tabor, Milton, and Taft, Bel Hill is a low-scoring team that relies on sound defense. Freshman goalie J.J. Thibodeau (2.14/.899) has held opponents to two or fewer goals 9 times in 13 starts. Team allows an average of 21 shots per game. Since Dec. 30th, Belmont Hill has gone 4-1-2. Are 2-2-2 vs. poll teams. MOST RECENTLY: Beat Thayer, Gov's, St. Mark's; tied Tabor. THIS WEEK: vs. SPS (Sat.)
8
St. Mark's
11-3-0
(N/R) TEAM GPG/GAA: 4.21/2.02 -- Another solid team. Since Carl Corazzini took over for Scott Young in 2014, the Lions have had only one losing season. Retooling, probably. Since 2019-20, St. Mark's is 52-12-6. MOST RECENTLY: Beat RL, Rivers, St. George's; lost to Bel Hill. THIS WEEK: vs. Middlesex (Wed.), vs. ASL (Fri.)
9
Taft
10-5-0
(4) TEAM GPG/GAA: 3.40/2.54 -- They're wobbling. After knocking off previously undefeated Avon on Jan. 7th, Taft has gone 2-3-0. The Rhinos -- like Tabor, Milton, and Belmont Hill -- are a low-scoring team. They'll only go as far as junior G Rudy Guimond (2.43, .944) takes them. In his first 9 games this season, the Yale recruit allowed as many as 3 goals just once. In his last 3 starts, it's happened twice (Westy nicked him for 5; NMH for 4). MOST RECENTLY: Beat Choate and Canterbury; lost to Westy, Loomis and NMH. THIS WEEK: @ Kent (Wed.), vs. T-P (Sat.)
10
St. Sebastian's
10-4-2
(7) TEAM GPG/GAA: 3.56/1.91 -- The Arrows are one of those rare teams with zero seniors. Despite that, they're having a surprisingly good season, and are a fun team to watch. Junior G Pelle Russo (1.82, .941) has been a difference-maker. He's allowed more than 3 goals in a game just once all season. That was to Nobles in early January. He gave up 4 in that one. MOST RECENTLY: Beat Middlesex; tied Tabor and Andover; lost to Gov's. THIS WEEK: @ Nobles (Wed.), vs. Thayer (Fri.)
* Note: Only games between NEPSIHA Div. I schools -- the principal factor in determining seedings for the playoffs -- are included in the won-lost records above.
