ECEL Holiday Classic Program Book

The East Coast Elite League (ECEL) Holiday Classic, for U16 and U18 teams, gets underway Saturday morning and runs through Monday Dec. 2nd at the Northford (Conn.) Ice Pavilion.

Other tournament venues will be Wesleyan University (Middletown, Conn.), Newington Arena (Newington, Conn.), Yale University (New Haven, Conn.), and Choate Rosemary Hall (Wallingford, Conn.)

There will be good representation from the top Tier I organizations from all corners of the United States -- distant ones like the Colorado Rampage, Atlanta Fire, and Seattle Jr. Thunderbirds -- and Canada, too, of course.

Mass., N.E. Regionals Results

Tier I

Massachusetts U18

Semifinal:  Eastern Mass Senators 6, Little Bruins 2 -- In the second period, the Senators got four goals from four different players.

Championship: Boston Jr. Eagles 6, Eastern Mass Senators 5 -- Senators had the early lead, but the Jr. Eagles fought back with three third-period goals. Nobles' Casey Severo scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Massachusetts U16

Semifinal: NV River Rats 5, Junior Bruins (USPHL) 3 -- Rats scored three unanswered goals in the first and the Junior Bruins couldn't find their way back into the game.
Semifinal: Boston Jr. Eagles 5, East Coast Wizards 0 -- Cully Wilson (Dexter) scored two goals and G Ryan Kazmouz (Dexter) got the shutout.
Championship: NV River Rats 5, Boston Jr. Eagles 3 -- Rats led it all the way. Goaltender Dylan Silverstein (Dexter) came up big for the Rats.

Massachusetts 15

Semifinal: Cape Cod Whalers 8, Springfield Rifles 1 -- Henry Cohen (Middlesex) and Shane Taddia (Thayer) led Whalers' scorers.
Semifinal: Minuteman Flames 3, East Coast Wizards 2  -- Flames scored three first-period goals, but Wizards battled back to make it a one-goal game.
Championship: Cape Cod Whalers 6, Minuteman Flames 2 -- Ryan Teehan (Hillside School) scored two goals for the Whalers.

***
New England U18

Semifinal: Northern Cyclones Prep 6, Yale Jr. Bulldogs 2 -- An upset. New Hampton G Robby Farrell was big in net, and Kevin Urquhart (Proctor) had a pair of goals for the Cyclones.
Semifinal: RI Saints (Mount St. Charles) 5, East Haven 3 -- Saints simply had too much offensive firepower.
Championship: RI Saints (Mount St. Charles) 4, Northern Cyclones Prep 1 -- Again, the Saints just had too many dangerous players, like Q-pac recruit Victor Czerneckianair. His surname is difficult to spell and prononunce, but he sure is fun to watch.

New England U16

Semifinal: Mid-Fairfield 4, Wallingford (Selects Academy) 2
Semifinal: RI Saints (Mount St. Charles) 8, Northern Cyclones Prep 3 -- Cyclones led 1-0 after one. It didn't hold up.
Championship: Mid-Fairfield 5, RI Saints (Mount St. Charles) 2 -- Avon's Connor Callaghan was strong in goal. James Shannon (Brunswick), PJ O'Neal (Avon), and Casey Raffone (Canterbury) were all productive up front.

New England 15

Semifinal: Wallingford (Selects Academy)  4, Northern Cyclones 0
Semifinal: RI Saints (Mount St. Charles) 4, Seacoast Spartans 2
Championship: Wallingford (Selects Academy) 5, RI Saints (Mount St. Charles) 2 -- With four third-period goals, the Selects opened up what had been a close game.

Mass & New England Regionals Schedules & Rosters (Updated)

The Massachusetts and New England Regionals are on tap for this weekend, Fri. Nov. 8th through Sun. Nov. 10th, at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass.

This is the second straight season in which the two districts will be holding their playoffs in a single venue. Until last year, the New England's were held at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass. In other words, it was a handful to take in both. (It still is, but in a different way: the NESC has eight sheets.)

This weekend's winners will move on to compete for a National Championship in the first week of April 2020. Here are the locations:

Tier I (April 1-6, 2020)
16U & 18U -- Rochester, Michigan
15 -- Plymouth, Michigan
14U -- Chicago, Ill.

Tier II (April 2-6, 2020)
18U -- Irvine, California
16U -- Troy, Michigan
14U -- Kalamazoo, Michigan

Here's the schedule for this weekend in Marlborough:
