Mon. Dec. 28 Tournament Scoreboard
Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament (Day 1 of 3; Belmont, Mass.):

Belmont Hill 6, Hebron 2 -- Hebron had a strong first period and went up 2-0 on goals by Shane Hearn and Nate Dupere. In the second and third, however, the Lumberjacks let up and allowed Belmont Hill to come back with six unanswered goals -- by Stephan Brennan, Alex DeBaere, Brandon McNally, Devin Albert, John Caldwell, and Mike McNamara. Goaltenders were Derek Metcalfe for Bel Hill and Colin Taylor for Hebron.

Kimball Union 6, Ridley College 0 -- KUA had no trouble with Ridley, as Martin Oullette posted the shutout, and Rafael Turcotte, Phil Boucher, Thomas Flynn, Josh Clarke, Ryan Cole, and Pete LaFosse each scored one goal.

Nichols 3, Millbrook 0 -- Nichols scored three second period goals, two of them off the stick of junior Matt Benedict, and soph Peter Borgesi picked up the shutout. Jason San Antonio was in net for Millbrook.

South Kent 3, St. Francis 0 -- South Kent got a pair of goals from defenseman Nick Riccio and a single goal from Jack Riley. In net, Rasmus Reijola and Sam Locke shared the shutout for South Kent.

Belmont Hill 10, Ridley 3 -- Mike McNamara had three goals and one assist for Belmont Hill.

Kimball Union 4, Hebron 1 -- Dennis Kravchenko and Ryan Cole each had a goal and an assist to lead KUA. Pat Doherty and Ryan Murray had KUA's other goals. Vlad Gavrik scored Hebron's only goal.

Thurs. Dec. 31 Tournament Scoreboard

-- BB&N Tournament (Day 2 of 2):
Dexter Edges BB&N For Title

Roxbury Latin 6, NYA 1 -- Danny O'Regan (2g,2a) and Kyle Kadlick (2g,2a) each had four points for Roxbury Latin. Michael Shepard also had a pair of goals.

Proctor 3, Shady Side 2 (OT) -- Proctor, trailing 2-0 at the half, came back with three unanswered goals, the last being  Connor Hayes' overtime game winner. Connor Toomey (1g,2a) figured in all three of his team's goals.

Third Place Game: Vermont Academy 4, Pingree 2 -- game sheet missing

Championship Game: Dexter 1, BB&N 0 -- A shot from the left point by Dexter senior d-man Mike Sullivan deflected off the skate of a BB&N defenseman and past goaltender Andrew Moccia with 1:17 remaining in the first half. That was the only goal of a tight battle -- shots for the entire game were Dexter 19, BB&N 13 -- but it was enough to give the tournament crown to a young, skilled Dexter team. Junior Kevin Green had the shutout, and the Dexter defense did a good job keeping BB&N to the outside. "I was impressed with BB&N," said Dexter head coach Dan Donato. "We hadn't faced that kind of team size and our forwards had to keep battling their big d-men. It was a good test. We'd earlier scrimmaged and beat Belmont Hill and Thayer so to beat another ISL team like BB&N is a great confidence booster."

"It was a fun game to watch and be part of," said BB&N head coach Terrence Butt. "Dexter did a good job. And I thought we played consistently from start to finish. It was a good championship game."

All-Tournament Team:
G- Kevin Green, junior, Dexter
D -- Jared Wiedemann, junior, Dexter
D -- James DiBlasi, junior, BB&N
F -- Mike Lopez, senior, Dexter
F -- Jack Bartlett, senior, BB&N
F -- Connor Toomey, senior, Proctor

-- Foxboro Tournament
(Day 2 of 2):

Nobles 6, Berkshire 4 -- Matt Harlow (3g,1a) and Kevin Hayes (1g,3a) each had four points for Nobles. Eighth grader Brandon Shea (1g,1a) had two points. Kevin Sullivan (1g,2a) had three points for Berkshire. Nobles was trailing 3-1 midway through the second but came back with four unanswered goals. Gene Lane was in net for Nobles; Mitch Gillam for Berkshire.

St. Sebastian's 6, Williston 3 -- Robbie Donahoe (3g,1a) and Tommy O'Regan (2g,2a) each had four points to lead the Arrows. P.J. McCadden (1g,2a) figured in all three of Williston's goals.

There was no tournament 'winner' as such, but Nobles went 2-0 here, Berkshire and St. Seb's each went 1-1, and Williston went 0-2.

Belmont Hill 1, Kimball Union 1
-- Not much separated these teams today. Phil Boucher scored in the first for KUA. In the second, Belmont Hill's Sean Gustin scored a flukey goal that appeared to deflect off a KUA d-man's skate and then up and off the back of goaltender Martin Ouellette. And that was it for the scoring. Derek Metcalfe was in goal for Belmont Hill.

Nichols 4, St. Francis 1
-- Andrew Poturalski and Andrew Stein each had a goal and an assist for Nichols.

McMullen's goal, which made it 2-1 at the time, was technically the game winner. David Lazaro banged home the rebound of a Troy Starrett shot which gave CM a brief 1-0 first period lead. Kent Tops USHR Prep Poll
By beating Gunnery in the finale of the Avon Tournament, the Kent School remains undefeated and takes over the top spot in this week's USHR Prep Poll.

USHR Prep Poll: Dec. 22, 2009

Taft vs. Avon: Breakfast at Fenway
The press box is closed, so we're outside. Fingers are frozen already, so please forgive typos. Our vantage point is the EMC Club over home plate -- but outdoors, not inside. It's pretty far from the ice -- the farthest from the ice this typist has been for any game since the Michigan-Michigan State outdoor game in East Lansing a few years back.

There is a small knot of people in the third base grandstand: everyone else is up in the luxury box area. Getting onto the field is about as easy as getting into a White House state dinner. We won't even try.

It's 9:15 and, after a lot of picture taking, it looks like we're ready to go.

Bo Redpath is in goal for Taft; Josh Dionne for Avon.

K.J. Tiefenwerth scores right off the bat for Avon,, tapping home a Pat MacGregor pass from in tight. They are not announcing goals and there's no game clock -- just a running time clock.

Taft just got it back on a rebound goal by, we believe, Derek Collins. It's 1-1 now, about seven minutes in.

They are playing (mostly bad) non-stop rock music all the time, not just during breaks in play. Strange, and irritating. Hansel's Messiah might be more appropriate to the season... if they insist on playing anything, that is.

John Jackson is in net for Avon now. Corbin McGuire almost immediately scores on a breakaway. 2-1 Taft.

Taft goes up 3-1 on a Kevin Spotts goal off a nice pass from Sean McGovern.

Avon makes it 3-2. Looked like the puck deflected in off the skate of a Taft d-man. Either Mimms or DeBello may get credit, though, to be honest, we're not sure if anyone is keeping stats here.

Aidan Cavallini just streaked down the right side, cut in front, got Jackson to go down, and buried it to make it 4-2 Taft.

The period is over and the ice is being now cleaned by a dozen men pushing snow shovels.Pretty cool.

By the way, no penalties have been called, and we kind of doubt one will be.

Second half:

Henri Pitkanen in net for Taft. Josh Hathaway in net for Avon.

Wind has picked up significantly, blowing left to right.

First penalty of game called -- to Taft's Thad Reycraft, for tripping. Avon's ensuing PP was unsuccessful.

Cam Hatch scores for Avon, cutting Taft's lead to 4-3.

Sean McGovern follows with a great goal, coming down the right side, deking the d-man, and burying his shot. 5-3, Taft.

Taft makes it 6-3 when d-man Thomas Freyre fires one home from the top of the right faceoff circle.

Matt Tetro builds Taft's lead to 7-3 on a wraparound goal.

A rebound goal by Avon's Michael Debello cuts it to 7-4 Taft.

Taft's McGuire scores his second of the game -- 8-4 Taft.

Avon's Tiefenwerth scores his second, tapping home the rebound of a Connor Doyle shot to cut Avon's lead to 8-5.

McGuire -- our #1 star of the game -- scores his third goal of the game with about five minutes of running time left to make it 9-5 Taft.

And that's it. These fingers are frozen solid. It was worth every second. It's great being in Fenway Park --- any time of the year.

Final score: Taft 9, Avon 5.
(The game, an exhibition, does not count in NEPSIHA standings.)

Notes:

Taft's retro unis, which head coach Danny Murphy adapted from a 1910 photograph he found in the school archives, looked great and will be raffled off to benefit the Cam Neely Foundation. Check the Taft web site's alumni page for more information. .

There were no faceoff circles, red line, or goal lines. Just faceoff dots, blue lines, and goal creases. We have a feeling that will change by Jan. 1.

As for the non-stop music, they did at least play "All Along the Watchtower" (Jimi Hendrix's version). And the Who's "Baba O'Reilly" certainly had appropriate lyrics.

For two periods, Andover did a good job hanging with Salisbury. Indeed, an Eddie Ellis rebound goal with 1:01 left in the second lifted Andover to a 2-2 tie headed into the second intermission. In the third, though, Salisbury's superior depth proved too much for a tiring Andover squad. A couple minutes in, Kyle Hughes converted a nice pass from Kevin Morris. Then Mike McCann finished off a 3-on-2 rush with Connor Cunningham and Kyle Hughes. McCann added another late in the third. Gabe Antoni kicked out 20 of 22 shots for the win. Eric Yoon, whose goaltending was key to Andover reaching the final, stopped 19 of 24.

"The key," said Salisbury head coach Andrew Will, "was sticking with it and being relentless. I figured if we could use our speed up front, and stay disciplined, we had a good chance. McCann was a great catalyst, and Antoni made the saves. It was a great team effort."

Andover head coach Dean Boylan said, "We were there for two periods, but Salisbury is a very good team, and had the better of the third period. We made a couple of mistakes and they took advantage."

Monday's Fenway Game
The Red Sox are considering Monday's 9:00 am exhibition game at Fenway between Avon and Taft as a 'private event,' meaning that they are not going through the full permitting process. This means that a maximum of 1,000 fans are allowed into the park (which holds 37,000). Each school has an allotment of 500, all of which have been spoken for. Fans showing up on Monday morning hoping to just walk in and catch the game will likely be disappointed.

An Important Note
We are at that time of year when games rain down in torrents. There will be many box scores to peruse on USHR, and, yes, there will be mistakes (not many, we hope) in those box scores. It's part of life. At prep games, there is no slow-motion replay to determine exactly who got the second assist on such-and-such a goal. Quite the opposite. Refs are tired, maybe worrying about their mortgage, and might misread a uniform number. They go over to the scorer's table and report it. It gets duly entered on the game sheet, and winds up in USHR.

Box scores appear in USHR because the coaches are kind enough to take the trouble to do it - they upload the box score directly to the site. It does not go through anyone at USHR, and we see only what you see. In most cases, the home coach in a game will upload the game. In some cases, each coach will upload their own team's information.

We consider box scores to be the domain of the schools involved, and we do not touch them - ever. We will not change the scoring on a goal. We will not change shots on goal. Sorry, but no way. If it's an emergency and we get a specific request from a coach for help, we'll do it... otherwise, no.

Coaches can enter the system at any time during a season and correct a mistake in a box score, roster, schedule. If you feel like there is a mistake, go to them.

On the prep pages, particularly over the next couple of days, we will, time allowing, have highlights of certain games - short blurbs. Often these tidbits are taken off of the game sheet before coaches have a chance to look at them. If you see a mistake in these highlights, do not worry. There is no connection whatsoever between these blurbs and the box scores. What we're doing with those blurbs is simply going with the best available information at the time.

All cumulative statistics on USHR are drawn directly from the box scores, which are dynamically interconnected. Statistics, especially in a fast-moving sport like hockey, are imperfect. Please keep that in mind -- and enjoy the games! If you are worried about your son getting screwed out of an assist, it means you're not enjoying the game to its fullest. And if your son is worried about the same thing, it probably means his head is not 100% into the game.

Portsmouth Abbey Coach Bound for Afghanistan
Second-year Portsmouth Abbey head coach Kevin Morrissey will be coaching his last games of the season when his team competes in the Brooks-Pingree Tournament this weekend.

In early January, Morrissey, a Norwich grad who is in the Army Reserves, will be deployed to Afghanistan. If you see him this weekend, please wish him well.

His players have begun wearing US Army stickers on their helmets and will be participating in a program that sends care packages to our troops in Afghanistan.

Derek Gittus, who was head coach of the program for 11 years before stepping down when his wife gave birth to their third child last year, has been assisting Morrissey, and will take over for him in January.

Freshman Leads Cushing Past Exeter

Ashburnham, Mass. - Freshman center Robbie Baillargeon (2g,2a) led Cushing to a hard-fought 5-4 win over Phillips Exeter here today.

Baillargeon, a 6'0" late '93 who played for Enfield (Conn.) High last winter, twice gave Cushing the lead, the second time for good. While he was a force, he was not the only standout forward the Penguins today. Senior Mike Conderman also had a big day with three points (1g,2a) -- it was the best game we've seen the Rochester, NY native play  since arriving at Cushing. Actually, most forwards looked good for Cushing today, as, directly off the opening faceoff, they came at Exeter's star senior goaltender, Colgate recruit Max Fenkell, in waves.

Exeter senior James Shannon actually put Exeter on the board first, just 1:07 in, when he came down the left side with speed and found plenty of daylight between Cushing goaltender Marcus Calvanico and the near post. But Cushing center Jake Butler, a 6'2"  junior from Cumming, Georgia, responded with a power play goal, converting a nice diagonal pass from junior Eric Chevrier on the point to tie it up at 1-1. At 10:22 of the first, Baillargeon finished off a great passing sequence down low with Conor Sheary and Conderman to put Cushing up 2-1. And that's how the first period ended. It was a dominant frame for the Penguins, as they held a 10-3 edge in shots, moved the puck well, and drove hard to the net.

In the second, Cushing kept up the pressure, with Conderman converted a pass from Baillargeon at the 4:08 mark to give Cushing a 3-1 lead. But within three minutes of Cushing getting that cushion, Exeter came right back and tied it, as first senior Tim Mitropoulos and then senior Josh Richards, on the power play, would bring Exeter back to a 3-3 tie heading into the second intermission.

Neither team was playing particularly well in their own end. At times, Cushing's d-men had a hard time handling the puck, and Exeter's defensemen were scrambling to keep step with the Cushing forwards, who were afforded a ton of space to drive to the net.

At 8:13 of the third period, with the score still tied at 3-3, 5'6" Cushing junior forward Nevin Lawlor drove to the net -- and right into Fenkell. It didn't seem egregious - it's something we see numerous times in a game. Normally, the goalie pops up, dusts himself off, and gets back to work. But Fenkell didn't like it at all this time, and took a punch at Lawlor. Exeter senior forward Peter Bessone jumped in and immediately he and Lawlor were down on the ice trading punches in front of the crease. The gloves never came off, but Bessone and Lawlor were given fighting majors and were tossed. Fenkell got a two-minute minor for roughing.

The minor was the difference. Fenkell's losing his cool cost his team because, on the ensuing power play, Baillargeon scored the game-winner, his second goal of the game, banging home a Brian Troy shot from the doorstep at the 9:30 mark.

Cushing, now smelling blood, scored again 38 seconds later, going up 5-3 when Connor Sheary snapped one home from the faceoff circle to Fenkell's left.

The final minutes became interesting when Exeter's top forward, Eric Neiley, converted a Josh Richards pass from behind the net to cut Cushing's lead to 5-4. That, however, was as close as Exeter would get, and they went down to their first defeat of the season.

Fenkell, from Meadowbrook, PA, has been Exeter's meal ticket for two years. Today, though, he was a little off his game.

Of course, the Cushing forwards played a role in that.

Exeter coach Dana Barbin said as much afterward. "Cushing," he said, "was a very determined and hungry team today. They played like they did not want to lose. They were an exceptionally determined group."

Cushing coach Rob Gagnon, whose team remains undefeated, was pleased with his team's effort. "I didn't envision us scoring five goals on Fenkell, but I did envision a one-goal game. For us, the key was staying out of the penalty box, which is something that's been killing us this season. I thought we only took one dumb penalty today. And I thought everyone stepped up in key situations."

"Our strategy tonight was to drive to the net through the middle of the ice, and we did that very well. You may have notice that Exeter's net was dislodged a number of times. By no means do I tell my kids to run a goalie but I do tell my kids to go the net hard and look were rebounds."

As for Baillargeon, who centers Conderman and Sheary, Gagnon said, "He sure didn't show his age tonight. He played with a lot of authority. He won the two faceoffs we drew up at the end of the game ... that's being mentally tough."

Governor's Rule
Belmont, Mass. -- Governor's Academy, which has gone a long while since winning a game on Belmont Hill's big sheet, scored a pair of third period goals to come from behind and defeat their hosts, 3-2.

On the game-winner, a power-play tally, senior Cody Ferriero blasted a shot from five feet inside the blue line. The rebound came out to senior Jake Picking, who fired it past Derek Metcalfe at the 12:54 mark to give Governor's their only lead of the day, and one they would hold onto until they skated off with the win.

Earlier, Governor's got out to an inauspicious start, as they fell behind just 1:14 into the game when, on the power play, Belmont Hill junior forward Alex DeBaere tipped one past Governor's senior goaltender Luke Montoni for the 1-0 lead.

After that, Montoni got tough in the Governor's net, holding Belmont Hill at bay and likely wondering when -- or if -- his teammates would score one against Metcalfe.

That goal came when Governor's senior center Brett Riley ripped one from the slot at the 6:21 mark of the second, tying the game at 1-1.

Belmont Hill got it back with 2:33 left in the period when sophomore center Devin Albert walked out of the corner and, crossing the top of the crease, tucked a beautiful top-shelf backhander past Montoni to give his team a 2-1 lead going into the second intermission.

Governor's came out hard in the third period, carrying the play from the opening faceoff. Belmont Hill seemed to be caught flatfooted by the visitors, and responded by taking unnecessary penalties.

On the tying goal, a power play tally at the 5:01 mark, Governor's senior defenseman Tim Winslow head-manned a nice little offensive zone pass up to junior forward Nick Wirth, who swept it past Metcalfe to make it 2-2.

Governor's kept right at it, and their efforts paid off with Picking's game-winner.

In the final couple of minutes, Belmont Hill regrouped and peppered Montoni, but couldn't solve him.

"We came together in the third period," said Governor's head coach Mike Delay. "Belmont Hill is quick and we struggled to contain them for large portions of the game. In the third period we executed much better. This is a good morale-booster for the team. They see now what they are capable of doing. Hopefully, we can build on this. In the first period Luke Montoni stood on his head to give us a chance - and in the third period we were able to respond a bit."

Ken Martin, Belmont Hill's coach, wasn't happy with the way his team let this one slip from their grasp. "I thought the penalties we took in the third period killed us. And I don't think we did very well on the power play. I thought our goalie played well, though. But they definitely outplayed us in the third period."

-- Bel Hill was without senior center John Caldwell, who was called for a hit-from-behind in Saturday's win over Nobles.

-- Governor's outshot Belmont Hill, 33-31.

-- In case anyone is wondering, we try not to cover the same teams in back-to-back games.(On Saturday, we also covered a Bel Hill game, vs. Nobles). However, the weather and ensuing cancellations caused a change in today's plans.

Saturday Dec. 5 Highlights
Nobles Giveth; Bel Hill Taketh --

Belmont, Mass. - Nobles coughed up a 3-1 second period lead today, allowing Belmont Hill to score five straight goals and skate off a with a 6-3 win.

The score was tied at 1-1 early in the second when Belmont Hill senior center John Caldwell was assessed a major for a hit from behind. On the ensuing power play Nobles scored twice, on goals by junior Matt Harlow and 8th grader Brandon Shea. For Shea, a '95 from Marshfield, and the son of former BC forward Neil Shea, it was his first prep school goal.

And that was as good as it got for Nobles today. A couple of minutes later, Belmont Hill junior Alex DeBaere cut the Nobles lead to 3-2. And right after that, Stephan Brennan tied it at 3-3.

The winning goal came on a breakaway by sophomore Devin Albert, who finished off his dash by putting a move - a little dip of the shoulder -- on Nobles goalie Gene Lane, and tucking it up in the back of the net with 4:56 left in the second.

The period ended with Belmont Hill leading 4-3. In the third, senior Nick Tierney fed Brandon McNally, who was barreling down the slot. McNally fired it low stick side with 5:08 left.

Belmont Hill junior Mike McNamara added an empty-netter with 48 seconds left for the 6-3 margin of victory.

"Our young kids held together well," said Belmont Hill coach Ken Martin afterward. "Early on I thought they were a little bit in awe of the Hayes line, but they settled down. I thought everyone contributed. We moved the puck well. Our forwards were creative, especially in the second part of the game. I was pleased with our total team effort. And I was pleased with our goalie."

Nobles coach Brian Day said Belmont Hill played hard and well, but his team is still "searching for its identity."

"Our compete level has to be higher," he said. "We have to understand that to be successful there has to be personal sacrifice. When you're skating 5-on-5 you have to be willing to go to the dirty areas. To Belmont Hill's credit, they weren't going to give us that area. And we didn't force the issue."

Notes:

-- Nobles D Mike Reardon is out with mono.

-- There were a lot of good young players in this game. Belmont Hill has a slew of ‘93s - and Devin Albert, a soph with hands and quickness, was very good today. Belmont Hill's 5'9", 150 lb. '94-born defenseman Matt Grzelcyk, who has already been offered by Boston University, showed his usual poise, plus he has the skills: a good stick, good head, and wheels. And for Nobles, we've already mentioned Shea, who has a great deal of upside. His goal today was a nice one, as he gathered up a puck that had rebounded to the side of the cage and found daylight on the short side - a goal scorer's goal.

Other Games Today:

-- A Brian Safstrom OT goal - his second goal of the game - lifted Andover to a 5-4 home win over Pomfret. It was the second straight OT loss for Pomfret.

-- Host Avon Old Farms topped Albany Academy, 6-3. Mike Pereira (3a), Paul Mimms (1g,2a) and Quinn Smith (2g) led the Winged Beavers attack.

-- Connor McBride (2g,1a) and Peter Michaildis (1g,2a) each had three points in Westminter’s 6-3 win at NMH.

-- Williston-Northampton senior goalie Bobby Bowden kicked out 64 of the 67 shots he faced, enabling his team to pick up a hard-earned 3-3 tie at Salisbury. A Max Edson third period goal saved Salisbury, which had a 2-0 lead after one but gave up three straight goals in the second, from defeat.

-- Junior defenseman Pat McNally had a hat trick – he has five goals in two games – and junior forward Doo Soo Kim had a goal and two assists as host Milton rolled over the visitors from St. Sebastian’s, 7-1.

-- Senior Nick Michaud had six goals in Berwick’s 7-2 win at Pingree.

-- New Berkshire goaltender Mitch Gillam shut out Taft, 3-0, on the road. Gillam had 30 saves.

-- BB&N topped Brooks on the road. Jack Bartlett (1g,3a) and Greg Tang (2g,1a) led the way for the Knights.

-- Erik Nilsson had a hat trick as host Gunnery topped Choate, 5-2.

12/4/09

Friday's Highlights

-- An Aiden Hartigan goal with 1:51 remaining gave host BB&N a one-goal lead a little over a minute after the visitors from St. Paul's had tied the game at 3-3. Bob Pease added an empty netter, his second goal of the game, to seal an opening day 5-3 win for the Knights. Brown recruit Greg Tang (1g,1a) and Jack Bartlett (2a) each had two points.

-- Peter LaFosse (3g,2a) figured in five of KUA's goals in a 7-1 win at New Hampton. Martin Oullette kicked out 19 shots for the win.

Roster Crazy

We have 44 rosters posted to the site now. Those that have appeared since our last accounting are from Avon, Canterbury, Governor’s, Hebron, Holderness, Lawrence, Milton, New Hampton, Middlesex, Nobles, Rivers, Salisbury, St. Paul’s, Tilton, and Williston-Northampton.

***

Most coaches include birthdates when filling out rosters, though some don’t. Because it’s the first piece of information that NHL scouts, college recruiters, and junior scouts are looking for, we strongly encourage including it. Quite simply, it helps kids get future opportunities. If any coaches wish to add birthdates, or make any other changes to rosters, it is easily done via the roster update button. Also, please allow us to remind you that you can easily make changes to your schedule as well. We just want to get that in before the snow starts flying and the postponements start piling up.

Wed. 12/2/09

Wed. Dec. 2 Highlights

In a back-and-forth game that saw the lead change hands 4 times, Nobles topped host Pomfret, 5-4, in overtime. After Pomfret’s Connor Quinn had tied the game at 4-4 with one second left in regulation, Nobles’ Kevin Hayes scored the game-winner in OT -- while on the PK. Hayes, who skated with the U.S. Under-18 Team vs. Bowdoin and Colby over the weekend, figured in all five Nobles goals.

Proctor senior Connor Toomey tallied four goals in the first period – and five in the game – as his team topped Vermont Academy, 12-2.

A 30-save shutout from junior Derick Roy led St. Paul’s to a 3-0 home win over Governor’s. St. Paul’s scored all of its goals with less than five minutes left in regulation, including a pair seven seconds apart.

Mike Sinsigalli (5g,2a), Kevin Sullivan (1g,4a) and Jake Goldberg (1g,4a) had big days as Berkshire squashed the visitors from Albany Academy, 12-2.

New junior Pat McNally scored twice in Milton’s 5-1 win at St. Mark’s.

With three seconds on the clock – and skating 6-on-4 – Holderness senior defenseman Ivan Delic scored to lift his team to a 3-3 tie with visiting Hebron.  Holderness goalie kicked out 39 of 42 shots; all three goals against him came in a 60-second span in the second period.

Millbrook sophomore Kevin Altidor and Canterbury senior Thomas Hartnett each scored a pair in a 6-3 Canterbury win.

Junior Barrett O’Neill and sophomore Cam Darcy each tallied a pair and Kevin Green kicked out 17 as Dexter blanked Middlesex, 5-0.

Senior Matt Chartrain (2g) and junior Jack Riley (2g,1a) led the attack as host South Kent topped Brunswick, 6-4.

Junior Peter LaFosse (3g,1a) and sophomore Dennis Kravchenko (2g,1a) led the way as Kimball Union topped Williston-Northampton, 7-1. Steve Mastalerz stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win.

The Cangelosi brothers, junior J.C. (3a) and freshman Austin (2g,1a) each had 3-point games as NMH rolled over Worcester Academy, 9-3.

In a rematch of last spring’s quarterfinals, Lawrence gained a small measure of revenge, edging host Andover, 3-2. Jeremy Bellino stopped 30 shots for the win.
